Where Can I Buy?

That ALDI one looks fab :good: If you can wait and eBay/car boot, you'd get more for your money though, quantity or quality wise :)

For what it's worth I had that Aldi tank last time they did it and it's a decent little tank, filter worked well, heater more than adequate and although I sold the tank recently I'm still using the hood and light on my snakehead tank and the plants in there are flourishing. For teh price it is a fairly decent package and large enough to add some corys in if you wanted.

I don't know who suggested that bettas don't require a filter but that's ridiculous. They are no different to gouramis and DO require one to keep the tank cycled and stable like any other species of tropical fish. Being able to breathe atmospheric O2 does not make them magically immune to their own waste so a filter IS required.

Sponge filters are good, and any small filter rated for 5 -10 gals is fine. It needs either an adjustable flow, or you can modify it to attatch a spray bar to deflect the current and make things comfortable for the betta.

As for locating a tank, as well as Ebay you culd look in your local bargain pages or newspaper classifieds for a tank, and also ask around the neighbors to see if anyone has a spare old tank in the garage they don't want anymore. Chances are if they do you'll either get it for free or for very little indeed

Arrrrgh
I want that ALDI tank very badly but mother has banned me from having any more. It's a great looking tank:shout:

oooh i like this cube

What bad advertising, thats not good for a any fish, and they have gone and shoved 4 Clown Fish in there. -_-

And on the title, they have wrote 5.5L whereas there measurments total 11L... Still not suitable for any fish though...

I just bought a 14x10x8 inch tank off ebay :) s'only big enough for 1 male, no tankmates, but not bad for a tenner :D only round the corner from me too!

Just gotta decide whether I want to put it sideways on the top of my stand or not. If I put it sideways I can prob fit another little tank beside it as well as my quar tank...

Now I jus need heater for it :hyper:

edit: that will have to wait til after christmas though, else hubby might actually kill me! :X

When I had mine it was on my bedside table with no problems.

There is a picture on Aldi's website in the specials secion - from Thursday I think. It is perfect for 1 or maybe even 2 bettas if divided (about 25l each just enough I think?)

i want to add cherry shrimp / apple snails etc aswel so i proberly wont bother dividing...

I might be wrong but i think that it's just a promotional photo that the seller was using and not an actual picture of their tank set up

i'm assuming you have only skim read the posts?

at no point did i say a betta doesnt need a filter. i said they dont need/like aeriation as it causes too much current for them

This is a question you need to apply to yourself. Shall I tell you why?

At no point did I say that YOU said that. It was Strontiumdog who said it which I read back on not long after my original post and couldn't be bothered to change (a choice which is no one's business but my own ) . I then re-itereated as to why bettas DO need a filter should the OP for some maniacal reason decide not to buy one .

Either way I did not say you said this, so why you're getting on my case about it I really have no idea.
