Hi people when do i need to clean my filters..

2 x EX 1200 on a juwel vision 450.

got about 24 1 to 2 inch malawis in there and 4 cockcoo fish

I would suggest every 3 months give them a rinse in old tank water. I'd rinse the first layer every month is possible as this is the filter pad that will restrict flow the most if it gets to clogged. Then every 12 months replace them.

People will have different opinions on this matter, so on the basis of what everyone thinks find a common medium somewhere inbetween that you think is best

You will know that it is time to clean the filters when the return flow starts to noticeably decrease.
