When A Fish Refuses To Eat?

Hikari micro pellets - FAILURE

My boy has now gone 5 days without eating. Tubifex worms are next up but those should arrive on monday/tuesday :shout:

Have you tried frozen bloodworms? Mine can't resist. They will gobble one up then grab another if they can and carry it around until they are ready to eat it. Bloodworms will also sink to the bottom where the apisto hangs out and might even "roll" by and look even more enticing.

I think frozen food will be the best to entice a hungry apisto, especially bloodworm - stop shopping on ebay and go to the lfs :P

I'll be at my lfs tomorrow to pick up frozen brine and blood worm. And if he eats that I'll condition him for about a week but here is where the problem begins. I have a planted community (vision 180) which includes corys gourami and tetras and two female borellii (who eat anything) and I can't use frozen food as the staple because of the problems that that can cause. They'll need a balanced diet and I only feed frozen foods 2 times a week (tuesday and thursday) so in short, even with the frozen food I'll still need to find him a staple food that he's willing to eat because even at the apisto forums (two of which I'm a member of) they never recommend a diet that consists soley of live/frozen food for you apisto.

So any food/staple suggestions would be greatly appreciated in the "I'm at the end of my tether" kind of way

Patience. Give him the frozen bloodworms and continue to feed the other fish. He'll eat when he's hungry. ;) I've never had apistos in my tank, but I can't see a fish turning up its nose to the point of starving itself. I'm sure it will eat something eventually.

Are you still trying the tetra crisps? You're not giving them enough of a chance. WE know it's food, they're more picky. Also don't get so worked up, they can go longer than 5 days without food.

Stick with frozen brine shrimp and bloodworm twice a week and feed soaked flake on other days. It WILL start eating it, mine took over a week.

Also like I suggested before, try sinking tablets. All fish can feed off them, not just bottom feeders. And I mean all-round food tablets, not algae wafers.
