Hi,

I have a Synodontis eruptus cat in my 60 gallon mbuna tank. He has this white spot or patch on his head. I thought it was a wound at first from a mbuna, but after 2 weeks it has not healed at all. It may be getting worse. he also has a line of white spots on his side. I know it isnt ick and im really confused. So far he is acting normal. My water is - ph 8.0, ammonia 0pp, nitrite 0ppm, nitrate 40ppm. usually the nitrate is maybe a little bit over 20. the only reason i can think of for the spike is that there was a cichlid that disappeared for a week and reappeared as a skull and spine. this was about 2 weeks ago. any more questions. let me know. thanks.

I have noticed white spots on mine before like that. They would just go away though. My thought is they can change their pigment, I put mine in a white bowl while acclimizing one time and he turned white! I'm sure someone else has some other thoughts, just wanted to give my 2 cents.

Looks like a cichlid bite to me - possilbe a bit of fungus in - maybe dose with Melafix or Primafix - i forget which one does fungal but you can use both at once.

just keep up on the water quality as well :)
