im worried about my betta. normally when i walk into my room hed swim up to me and go crazy around his bowl. lately, hes just sitting around or he'll go to tthe surface with his head at the surface and just sit there. then he'll float down and lie on the rocks leaning over to teh side a bit. i found this stuff at the top of the tank im not sure if its his food or throwup. i can't bear for him to be sick and can't bear to have him die. what can i do. by the way he is 3 1/2 years old. just did water change like 2 days ago

Do you know your water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.
What do you feed the betta.
Does he look bloated.
It could be anything from constipation, bacterial.

thanks for answering.
no
freezedried bloodworms
he is a little fat around the stomach and he hasn't pooped for a while.
should i give him a pea? if so, how do i prepare it?

Don't over feed the bloodworms they make fish bloat up
Do you only feed the betta bloodworms.
Don't feed bloodworms more than twice a week, and freeze dried ones are not that good.
Cook some peas for a few minutes, let cool down and pop out of shell,.Mush between fingers into small peices and add to his tank.

Laying to oneside can be a sign of a bacterial infection.
Epson salt baths help draw the fluids out.
Is his scales sticking out.

woops. what do i feed him them
hes not on his side, just kinda tilting
his sclaes aren't sticking out so not dropsy\
ok. how long do i cook and on what temp.
oh and his eye looks like it is coming out of its socket. not super large like popeye but a little large
i only have frozen peas. is that ok?

Best thing to feed are Hikari Betta Gold pellets.

If you don't want to cook up a load of peas just take one or two and pour boiling water over. Leave for a few minutes and then do what Wilder suggested.

He needs more than bloodworms.
he need vitamins which you get in flake and pellet foods.
He needs a varied diet of frozen foods like daphnia which is good for digesting a fish food, brimestrimp.
Veg like peas, spinach, sproats, green cabbage, anything green really.

I would go the lfs and pick him some betta food up and maybe buy him some frozen treats.
Vitmain defiency can also cause bent spines in fish.

ok. ill cook the pea in boiling water for a couple of minutes and give it to him.
does he need both daphnia and brineshrimp, or just brine shrimp?

You can feed Brineshrimp, Daphnia and frozen bloodworm purely as a treat once or twice a week but not too much of it. With the frozen you can just break a bit off and pop the rest back in the freezer so you're not wasting it.

wait so i can just feed brine shri mp as meal and the bloodworm as treats?

No.....there regular daily diet should be Betta pellets and either of the frozen foods only as a treat.

ok. ill get him some pellets and some freeze dried bine shrimp. he didn't eat the pea. it just sank to the bottom. one even landed right on his head and he didn't eat it.

I woudn't get the freeze dried.....buy the frozen as it's much better for them. If he didn't take the pea, I'd leave him till tomorrow and try again....but don't give him anything else until then.

Isn't 3.5 years old quite elderly in betta years? Has he only eaten the bloodworms his whole life?
