Ok, here's the deal. I have a 90 gal. complete with 1 silver dollar (very small as of yet, but will pick up 2-3 tomorrow for shoaling), a loner feeder guppy (doubtfully he'll last the night because of the...) and a Black Ghost knife fish. as of right now, he is only but about 3.5'. What's the perfect Cichlid(s) for me? as much as I'd love an oscar, I know he'd eventually overpopulate the tank. and I'd also like something that would at least "cope" with the BGK and the dollars. All suggestions/ most critisism is welcome! :p I believe the tank is 48x18x24 or something similar. Thanks!

I aggree with vancouver a severum would probably work best there. Severums are very personable fish too, similar to an Oscar in that respect

what about a pair of kribs?
thats what i want for my 39gal, great fish :D

yea, I really like the green severum... I think it looks great, but could I hold two, or would they fight? I mean, I by no means want to overpopulate the tank, but I don't want to have but 1 showpiece fish, know what I mean? i guess it's just still hard for me to decide :p still, if anybody can think of anyother ones, let me know!!

Severums grow to around a foot long and are awesome looking fish when they get past 5". In a 90g you could have a sev and 3 earth eaters (IME Geophagus suranimensis or G. brasiliensis are very nice looking) :)

I don't know a lot about BGK in terms of growth.. I'm going to guess they max out at 10''-12'' or something close to that... Is the tank a 4ft?.. You might be able to get away with 2 sevs and the BGK. Might have to wait and see how it looks when they grow though.

what about a nicaraguensis? i have 2 diferent colour forms and they are very nice looking fish :)
they can become teritorial, but i have 3 hand sized silver dollars in there ( beware they can get huge )
what about blue eye cichlids? they share alot of the convict looks and are a close cousin but are no where near as aggressive and are quiet colourful and cheap.

ya know, I'm stuck between the nicaraguensis and the green severum... good Lord, I'll never be able to decide!!! :/ I don;t so much think I'll do the earth eaters though, i don't have sand (or even small gravel) substrate. Pretty descent sized gravel.

i have a nicaraguensis in with 2 gold severums, they are good together, this nicaraguensis is the bright yellow and blue variety and it has spawned with my pink convict
they are both easily managable fish and severums dont grow as quik as some of the larger cichlids e.g devils or oscars , nicaraguensis grows faster in a bigger tank on a diet of medium/large cichlid pellets.

You could fit 2 severums. I myself like the gold severums. Mabey you could get one green and one gold. I have 2 gold in a 90 gallon and I really enjoy them. There Great fish. Earth eaters go well with the severums and so do the silver dollars. Im not sure about the Ghost Knife Fish though. You should try it. The picture of one of my severums is my avitar if you see it. GOOD LUCK! :fish:

blue acaras
blue acaras are retarded, my book says 8" full size can become agressive, myn didnt grow any bigger than 2 inches in about 4 months, one died of hole in head, the other was predated on by my gar ( lol )
they were stubby grey coloured fish nothing atractive about them really, they look really nice on the internet but mine where nasty! lol
