It strikes me that relative to all the other money we spend to keep them... and all of the happiness they give us... fish are really cheap. Even our expensive ones.

Just a little perspective.

very true.

as for me, $80 for a betta that jumped out of his tank and died :-(
oh yeah and that time i got jipped on aquabid. $47 for some veil tail bettas that were supposed to be deltas...

About 26 bucks for a peacock eel is the most I've paid. I rarely pay alot for less common fish though. For example, I picked up 4 gold Lamprologus Occelatus a few years ago for $40 from a local breeder, at an lfs they would have cost me around $56 each.

I rarely spend alot on tanks and stands either. In a few months I'll be getting a 5x2x2 tank for around 150-200 bucks. I was going to make it myself but recently found some cheap ones about an hour or so away. I am currently weighing up if it is worth building or buying.

In the first 6 months I raised about 1000 babies from that male. made the $175 look like nothing but a good investment........

Paid $130 CAN for my Serrasalmus Elongatus (Pike Piranha)

I've also had eight 6" Pygocentrus Nattereri's (Red Belly Piranha) which I sold for $300 CAN

I have just bought 2 X 6" Clown Loaches paid £100 for the pair, or they wanted £60 each, dont know the normal price for them as i havent seen many this size in the shops, but they do have great colour and fats as hell, when i seen them i didnt care about the price.

My most expensive fish was my Blue HM, Fasolt. He was $7.95. My cheapest fish, my bridget rasboras, they were $.89 each, really cheap. My most expensive collection of fish, my 9 harlequin rasboras at $22.41. I'm guessing, if I include all my tanks from all my fishkeeping years, I've probably spent about maybe $5,000 on everything. I'm spending a lot on plants and their care now, because I want to keep them alive.

I got our fish from a lame lfs is in a small town we used to live in. Our Ghost Knife was $15CDN and we got a Syno Decorus(labelled as Plecostomus) for $3CDN

The Syno is priced at $80CDN in the lfs we go to now in the city  :hey:

50 bux, betta from tiland, 10 for the fish 30 for shipping :X and he didn't live very lon either, never got the chance to breed him :/
