Whats the dumbest thing,

lol

well my lfs that i go to isnt dumb(except for one guy that said a oscar can go in a 20 gal :grr: )

i wanted to test them out and i sed i have a 55gal with 4 oscars and 2 jack dempsys. is it okay if i put those guppy thingys in with them?

and my lfs laughed and then said: first off you cant even have one oscar or one jack in a 55 gal and we feed guupys to our oscars.

me:well good you passed the test.

lfs guy(laughing): some of our custermers always do that to us

and from then on the guy and me had become friends and he soemtimes gives me free fishies :fun:

My story isnt so bad, i was new to fish keeping and was after advice, i saw the baby gibbiceps pleco, cute little guy, i asked 'hey he's nice, how big will he grow, i only have a 10g tank' the guy relpied, '10g? whats that? oh yeah, we dont do gallons, the fish will grow quick but wont grow any bigger than 6 inch'. i thought that sounds good. so i bought my baby fish home, then looked online. How i learnt. I love my gibby too much to give him away so im buying him a bigger tank.

I have learnt always to do my research online before listening to anything those pimple face kids say in the shop.

Lemme pick the best ones....from the same LFS

1. "Clownfish can go with guppies and will do well in a freshwater tank"....said to a family wanting to put clownfish with their guppies
2. "Platies do just as well in cold as in tropical tanks"....from the same person when I asked what the deal with their cold water platies was
3. "Platies won't eat algae tablets, they're carnivores"...when I was after food that only the catfish would eat
4. "We have the cheapest Fluval filters anywhere....if you can find one cheaper let us know" so I did....it was $100 cheaper to buy online even with postage costs
5. "White spot isn't always ich, whitespot can mean a variety of things" when I was a newbie asking about treating ich (but I knew what he said was wrong)
6. "If your tank temperature goes above 30deg C your fish will die"....after I said my fish lived happily in summer at 32degC (plenty of aeration)

Sheesh...I am sure there are more but thats what comes to mind right now

well I haven't had any bad advice from my LFS dude, he's tops and owns 10 tanks himself right up to 400l. So I think it would be pretty hard to catch him out.

He said he admires me for the research I do, as he gets alot of poeple that buy a tank and want fish in it the same day....and he does refuse them fish so he's a gd'un!!

A few years ago my girlfriend and son were at a fish store when they spotted a ornate bichir in one of the tanks, knowing that it was a fish i'd been looking out for they called a store worker over to ask how much it was. He came over and they asked how much for the Polypterus ornatapinnis to which he gave a blank look and asked them to point the fish out, so Joe (our son who was then 4) points out the fish and says "that one" to which the store worker laughs and says "oh sorry, thats not a fish, its a newt and they are £15". Joe then says "no thats a Polypterus, i know it is because my dad has some in his tank" and another couple in the shop start laughing and watching whats gong on, so the guy says again "no sorry they are deffinately newts, we had quite a few in and thats the last one" so then my GF steps in and says "sorry i think your mistaken, do you have a refference book here" which apperently they didnt. So the GF goes and gets a book from the shelf, opens it to the right page and shows the store worker the fish, apperntly he turned the brightest shade of red anyone has ever seen, my GF thought he was going to explode  Anyway they bought the fish for the bargain £15 and brought it home as a nice suprise for me when i got in from work, i still have the fish and it is now a good 18" long! I just wonder what happened to all the others that innocent people bought thinking that they were nice community friendly newts which then grew into foot and half long predatory monsters within a couple of years
    That's funny. A newt with no legs, gills, and fins

Tropjunky, Is your lfs The Water Zoo? ;)

An lfs I go to quite often keeps all kinds of aggressive fish; many types of cichlid and often stocks piranha. One day I gave them a call and asked if they ever stock dwarf puffers. The guy on the phone said "No cos they're too aggressive," so I was like
