What's the dumbest thing you've done?

I sometimes turn the filter off to maintain it and forget to turn it back on it's a long time b4 i realise (usuaaly about a week). i never know how my water stays ammonia free after that time. i've cycled my tank over and over during the past 4 years. BUT my biggest mistakes was with my sirrasa commets (fancy gold fish), i had no knowlage about fish and i did 100% water changes no water treatments or filter or anything. the sods lived at least 3 years and i don't know if they're still alive cos i've given them to my lfs to rehome.

leave the heater on during a awater change and it shattered :*)
Oops. I always leave mine on. I get the water to the right temp before adding it to the tank. Guess i've just been lucky!

My dumbest thing? That would have to be earlier this summer when I was cleaning my gravel, and moved all the gravel around to try and stir up some gunk. Turns out I kicked up a pocket of ammonia or something and killed 3 danios, a baby platy(my first baby ever!) and 2 Barbs. I was not a happy girl.

1. I accidentally flushed a live neon :*) oops. Thought he was dead, but came alive in toilet.

2. Kept an angel pair in a 10 gallon tank for several years.

3. Kept 2 malawi gold cichlids in the same 10 gallon for several months later on.

4. Kept neons and angels together (guess what happened).

5. Moved one of my malawi golds to the tank containing my neons and black neons because it was being harassed by th other one, and I ended up with one very plump and healthy malawi gold cichlid.

6. kept a common goldfish in a 2 gallon tank for 4 years

7. My brother kept a betta in a container not much bigger than the cup it was in at the store. It jumped out one night and died several hours later.

*All of these events occurred when I was much younger (aged 9-13) and much less experienced. I know better now.

when transferring platy fry one day....I checked the tank after to find one missing. I figured it was hiding in plants.....so came back 1/2 hour later to not find it again...looking...looking.....then I found it just sitting on the edge of the top of the tank.....with no water

Lukily it survived!!

ive been cleaning my filters in tap water and changes the water in my tanks with just tap water for over a year

same vip.

On a drunken night i thought it would be cool to put some tequlia in my tank (bout 2 years ago). I find out the next morning it wasnt such a good idea, my fish went ALL white and up the top, the water was gross.

lol how the hell do you break it 3 times???
1)when my old shark(when i was a novice keeper) started eating my guppys i took of the lid and some how it broke(i was really mad at the time). (again i was a novice, my first fish.)

2)
it droped on the floor with out me knowing and someone through a basketball onto the ground where it was and smashed it.

3)my dad broke it while i was away at camp, he tried to take care of my fish lol

:*) :*) :*) :fun: :fun:

Brought a new betta and during a water change he jumped out of the tank
at that precise moment Thomas (one of my cats) grab him and ran off.
I was unable to catch him in time and after a chase around the garden, the betta was dead. :-(
Bad bad Thomas, who by the way got told off and sulked for three days.

o yeh, i also forgot to mention that i was doing a clean of my 1 gal betta tank and i kept him in anoither container and he jumped out of that into the sink. but i quikly opend the sink an he got stuck to the side so i caught him and he lived ahappy life after that,
