Hi

Was wondering what would be the best way to clean a sand substrate i have a gravel vac but am worried this would be two strong, or is there a way that you can do it with out sucking up the sand. I have only had gravel substrate in the past and so i am new to sand.

Hi,

I washed my sand out in a bucket, use a hose to wash it out, when bucket gets filled with water, drain it out as the sand stays in the bottom. Keep on doing this till the water runs clear.

Hope this Helps

Just lightly skim above the surface of the sand rather than sticking it in as you would with gravel.

cories just bury the muck and don't clean it.

I have this problem too and found if I use a tube and skim lightly over the area it'll get the waste. don't worry if u get a little sand too :)

Would using a cleaner with a larger head/opening make a difference? I'm assuming that a larger opening will generate lower suction compared to a smaller one?

Thank you for all your feedback, I have Corys in there and they just bury the muck, will try skimming the gravel vac above sand and see how that goes.
