Now im reading about eith atm for my new project that has a sump.

Now readin about dursos i kinda understand how they work but can any1 give a good explanation and really if you had a choice of durso or overflow which would you prefer??

OR i was looking at a simple drilled overflow, where it doesnt have any siphon so that stops overflowing issues? heres the video

Dursos have a drilled tank and as a result have one less failure point (no syphon to ever get broken). As a result all of my tanks which run on a sump system (which is every single tank I run) is drilled with a durso or calfo.

do you know if aquatlantis aquariums use tempered glass on the sides? i know most manufactures use it on bottom but do they on the sides? Cos i do like todo the durso idea.

Right well ive designed my own overflow here it is and let me know what you think...?

Ideally you will need to slightly modify the outside of the pipe to make it work well (to create a calfo overflow). Connect the bulkhead to a T section with a pipe heading down to the sump and another up above the water level of the tank. Cap the very top and drill a small hole in it (6mm). Stick some airline in it. Without this you can get an air build up that will stop the drain working perfectly.

Awsome that can be done then. And as for return i was thinking of a oceanrunner 2500 to allow for headloss i worked out i would get about 1600lph after headloss and maybe bit more from friction, or would you go with the 1200 and only get roughly 500lph?

Also another question what pipe size would you run? 1/2" 3/4 or 1" from both return and intake?

Cheers

I would run at least 1" drain, if not 1.5". Bigger is most definitely safer. For return I tend to just use soft which fits the pump.

On pump size it is up to you. I never really care too much for fast flow through the sump. So long as it is 5x before the head loss I am happy.
