Sorry to hi - jack the thread... But how much of the TMS would you need for a 12 UK gallon/54 liter aquarium?
When you plant do you still need to have plant substrate underneath it?

Is TMS really a sand or is it more like gravel - because on the photo they show it kinda looks like gravel...

Sorry, this probably sounds a silly question, but do you vaccum the sand?
im thinking of replacing my gravel you see :good:

i have got sand for my malawis but they are going soon and im changing my 200L into a community tank. i cant wait to put gravel in if im honest becuase a) you can always see the fish poo with sand and b) it is reking my pumps!

as much as i love the sand, you can clean it on the Monday and by Thursday, it will be dirty again full of fish poo.

id go with gravel!

My tanks have always had gravel but with my new Discus tank I got cream aquatic sand.

As times gone on I've found myself hating it more and more. The constant cleaning of it and a hour later poo was back.

So the tank is going to gravel, a black one which should show my Discus off well.

I took 95% of the sand out last night using a scoop and jug, putting it in a bucket to store it.
Theres just a bit of sand left for the Corys left to snuffle in. I did it all with the Discus and other fish insitu, so I'm guessing as long as your careful you could remove gravel from your tank without emptying the tank.

Once I'm ready to put the gravel in, I will use a syphon tube to remove the last bit of sand.
