What Would You Put In A 65 Gallon Tank?

I think you should get some angelfish as they have really nice personalities and really funny to watch at times.
I would go with clown loaches a shoal of 4-8, a black ghost knife fish, 2 german blue rams, yoyo loaches, kuhli loach 4+, cory's, horse faced loach, ruby shark.
Also shrimps like fan or cherry shrimp, many more types.
these are just suggestions for a community i have had all of these together.

Agree with the problems mentioned about this suggestion.

1. The clown loaches reach 12-16" and need a bare minimum of 350/400L, although they grow slow you need to make sure they have a big enough tank early enough to ensure their growth isn't stunted.

2. The BGKF can reach 24" although in captivity normally reach more like 18" again need a bare minimum of 350/400L

3. German blue rams require higher temperatures of 28-32 degree celcius making them not ideal for most other community fish that need lower temperatures. Bolivan rams would be a lot better alternative.

4. Horse faced loaches are ok size wise but again need a slightly higher temperature than what is normally considered for a community tank, these loaches need temp between 25-29 celcius.

5. Ruby / rainbow sharks 'can' be aggressive, depending on the nature of the shark. I have one in my 33 gal and its absolutely fine. Admittedly these are not as aggressive as the ret tailed black sharks.

Other suggestions are fine.

Yeah true i know what you're saying is right and for a 65gallon clowns started off small can do really well, however then again i did have a 300 lt and never had them in any smaller tank they did really well with other fish like ruby sharks and even yellow labs.
Even though i have kept them altogether but i was suggesting them seperately and with other people's views of fish they could keep, so he would have a mix of different people's suitable fish plan, if you get what i mean.
Actually i did have some of the fish in a smaller tank except the clown loach but once i upgraded they all completely changed and turned out how a community tank should be. Including my ruby sharks they change personalities in aggressiveness and he's stayed peaceful since.

I have another suggestion Exodon Paradoxus i have seen these on youtube and they are aggressive fish that will need to be kept in shoals of atleast 10 for their aggressiveness but are not boring fish. I am not too sure what they can be kept with, can they be kept with cichlids with their aggressive behaviour?
What do these fish go into tetra's?

Seriously Watch...

Here is a link of them on youtube:

Of course I am going to suggest a Severum :)

Can't have live plants with them though.
I love these fish and really want one, but I'd like this tank to be planted.

and Wills I'm going to look into those guys, they're stunning! Are they relatively easy to find though?

Personally I would put some sharks in there. That is if there was nothing else in there. Or perhaps a wide variety of cichlids.

I agree with the suggestion of an Angel community. Your tank's 10Gal bigger than mine, so you could probably have 5 or 6 angels comfortably, and some nice large schoaling fish, I got congo tetras in mine, and I would definitely get a small selection of plecs too! Enjoy!

Yeah they are reasonably easy to find maybe have to look around a few shops

I wouldnt have bala sharks in there, bear minimum five foot, even then my group of four seem to be outgrowing the five foot,
Cichlid's are a great choice but you really need to think,if you want plants then either angels/discus or drawf cichlids are the best option, you might be able to get away with a festivum....
Another great addition to planted tanks<depending where you live>are dwarf snakeheads...they thrive in planted tanks..

not really big enough for a severum 48x24x13 im assuming 24 is the height and 13 the width? if so putting a sev that can reach 10 inches+ into a tank 13 inches wide just isnt room enough for it im afraid

I was reading your topic in work yesterday and i read the title out loud and just burst out laughing when one of the girls just deadpanned with "Water". I laughed for a while over that.

How about some Kribs?

Ahh now there are so many choices :shout:

I really like the Bala sharks and Sevrums, but if they wont fit then I don't want to squeeze them in there.

Kribs are nice, what else can I put with them? and how many could I have?

Thanks for all the great suggestions guys, this has really given me a lot to think about.still got plenty of time while the tank cycles though :good:

A good alternatives to Bala sharks IMO are Denison Barbs aka Rose Line Sharks ;) Have a quick look they are very nice but quite expensive
