So I look on craigslist all the time for a good deal on a large tank. I found an 80 Gal with stand, filter, hood, decorations and more for $250 obo.

I really really want a bigger tank, fish are addictive. I feel like there are just so many options when it come to an 80gal tank I just don't know. Maybe it would be a good tank to try salt water?

What would you keep in an 80 Gal tank?
Do you think that's a good deal?

Yea that seems like a great deal to me...i paid $170 for my 55 gal which only came with hood lights filter and heater...

I would do some Cichlids, either small africans or large south americans

I'm thinking a south American theme.peaceful NW cichilds, pleco, and some other from south America.
And we are getting snow up here in tahoe wooohoo.

Personally a lot of people love cichlids and I have one myself. I understand that they are interesting and very colorful, but they are very aggresive (for the most part). I would rather just have a bunch of community tropical fish. You can find some very colorful and interesting community fish. I find bala sharks very cool and they usually live well with others. They will eventually get to big for your tank but they wont get there that fast. So probably not the sharks but danios, barbs, certain catfish, loaches, rainbow fish, and tetras are all cool. And for some reason I personally enjoy snails. But if you want to go with cichlids then that sounds good if thats what is for you, also that is a decent size tank to give them their own space. Jut my 2 cents

Glad to hear that! its been raining here for the past few days, i live about 2.5 hrs from Tahoe

in my 55 gallon i have a salvini and 2 convicts, they are pretty territorial towards each other but hardly notice my clown loaches and pleco...

Do you have any ideas as to specific fish for the tank yet?

If it were me, I'd go for a well planted tank with one or two LARGE shoals of small fish. Some sort of tetras or rasboros. With perhaps a group of interesting/entertaining bottom feeders such as Khulies or the Black cories I saw mentioned in the betta forum. But that's just my personal preference.

I'm not a fan of the Oscar! Cichlids! Massive variety of community fish!! approach when faced with the idea of a huge tank. Sometimes the simpler approach can be the most beautiful.

for me it would have to be south american cichlids especially a nice sev like this
