hi all im thinking off gettting a snake head i have a 6x2x2 tank and was looking for one that grows over a foot long

Hello mate, glad to see you have the bug, a few questions for you,.
Are you looking at a wet pet, litterally having one single snakehead or a pair, or are you thinking of having other fish in with them?
If its a pair your wanting, they heyya thats excellent, or single speciemen, What also theres sub tropical species<not needing a heater> or tropical, then theres the big question, how much money your looking at shelling out?

im just looking a single snakehead have always wanted one , i had a redtail cat and silver arrowana a few years ago before i moved house. Have only a 260lt comunity tank but find it boring

Well i guess this would be a second tank, hmmm you have so much choice, hehe
I would personally reccomend aiming for a pair, which means buying a group, then watching them pair off and then selling or giving away the rest, as to what type, you can look at a few sites with specialise in snakeheads more so, usally private sales, otherwise try looking around loacl fish shops. as to what types,if you can find them channa pluero my female was stunning, as are parachanna obscura which are both tropicals, these are personal exsperiences, then theres Auranti, ok i will list it,,hehe

channa Aurantimaculata
Auranti
Lucius
pleurophthalma
melasoma
punctata

parachanna obscura
africana
insignis

Hmm that is strange, not sure mate, only thing i could suggest is ask at lfs if they can get snakeheads in for you, other than this, I have no clue but a thought to look into if you want, could you come to the uk by boat and return with animals in tow? iam not sure what laws are to this practice,

Biggest mistake you could possibly make.
Hope you have at least 9ft of tank space ready and are happy to have all that for a single fish!

There is a reason Reds are cheap.
This fish is suitable for a tropical pond only.

If I were you unless you have the means to house a serious fish, cancel your order and get a group of the browns instead.

Take this from someone who knows a fair amount about Channa and kept a red from baby to 2.5 feet before it being taken from it's pond by a fox.

I have mo doubts in my mind that before long the 4-5ft could have happened in it's large pond.

If I had a tank like yours I'd get Channa micropeltes. They are abundant here and sold very cheap :D

That is a Red Snakehead. A bad idea for the reasons gasmask has mentioned above.
Arguably one of the most aggressive freshwater fish in the world.
