Hi everyone! Just wondering, what type of goldfish is this? I believe heā€™s a fantail, what do you think?

The body type used to be labeled "fancy goldfish" at the LFS's. One of the things I read about them indicated that they're hard on aquarium ecosystems. Still, they're easy on the eye and I'd like to have one.

I bought a good filter for that. You should get one! Heā€™s so fun and active!

Any special or unusual rquirements? I'm betting "no." BTW, beautiful aquascaping you have.

Big regular water changes and gravel clean the substrate.

Make sure they get plenty of plant matter in their diet.

For the OP, it's just an average fantail goldfish. Not a high quality one but nice enough. The high quality ones with the high body tend to have more health issues so a lower grade fish will usually do better and have less problems.

Fantail goldfish have 2 tails.
Common goldfish have a short single tail.
Comet goldfish have a long single tail.

Beyond standard tank maintenance fantails' have a quality-of-life consideration. They shouldn't be kept with what are called "finnippers." A commonly owned species of this class is the memorable and fascinating tiger barb.

I've got two needed upgrades to go, after that I'm going to source the best fantail I can afford.
