i got my older brother wanting a fish tank lol so their gonna start out with a 10g for their oldest daughter (she's 2) and he asked me what to put in it

what kind of fish can you put into a 10g is my question as i was stumped on that
i told him what else he needs beside fish but if any one has advice on any thing else or want to add their input feel free

What about a betta, some shrimp and maybe some endlers or corys? Or possibly a betta and 6-8 neon tetras? Maybe a dwarf puffer or two and some otos?

I have 2 10 gallons. 1 has tetras and harlequin rasboras and the other has guppies and platies. The tetras and rasboras are very active. They are constantly swimming all over the place. The livebearers don't move around as much, but they are colorful and pretty to look at. My sister used to have a 10 gallon with female bettas. She had 6 I believe. They were always swimming around. She had various colors too. I remember one was bright pink and another was bluish green. They were beautiful. If it's for his daughter, show her what fish can live in a 10 gallon and let her choose. Pretty much tetras, guppies, platies, and bettas. Here is a link to a site that has stocking ideas for a 10 gallon. http://www.wetwebmedia.com/ca/volume_5/volume_5_3/stocking.htm This site says that livebearers should be in a 20 gallon tank. Mine are all males and do fine in the 10. But I have 2 caves and a few plants so they can get away from each other.

This could be tricky. If you decide to put a betta in a tank with any other fish, make sure the betta goes in last. Like 2 weeks after everything else. This will give the other fish time to get used to the tank and the betta won't be as territorial. One of the stores here has bettas in tanks with other fish like rasboras instead of in those little cups. I would recommend getting one from a store that has bettas in community tanks. also, try to get tankmates that don't stand out. I would go for rasboras instead of neons. The betta may feel threatened by the neon's bright colors and attack them. That is why bettas and guppies shouldn't mix. Bettas are tricky to keep with other fish. Most of the time, it depends on the betta. Some will be fine in a tank full of fancy guppies and others will attack any fish that they see.

Ah, didn't think of that. Haven't actually tried the combination myself, just heard of people who have. :)

ya i know bettas are picky with their tank mates some times, my VT male has let me know he did not like the albino cories i added in his tank today..i know my brother isnt wanting a betta at all so i think their leaning more towards getting a few tropicals like neons or some thing like that

I would go with neons or another type of small tetra. They are fairly colorful and very active. I think his daughter would enjoy them.

Cardinals would be a better option because I've heard they are hardier.

either way she is gonna love them cus she is in love with fish (thanks to aunt hannah) ^_^

i like the look of cardinals but the pet stores near me never stock good fish
