What To Put In My 125L Community Tank

After recently upgrading from a 48 litre tank to a 125L tank I have been contemplating what to stock in there as the tank looks very bare, in the tank there is currently:

1 crowntail betta
4 rummy nose tetras
2 cherry barbs
1 male swordtail
1 male platy
2 corys
2 amano shrimp


Im looking for something slightly different to what i already have i like the look of the honey dwarf gourami but am unsure if that would be ok singley and with my betta? also i was considering a few male guppies i am aware that you should not mix them with a betta because of there fancy tails but the tank is heavily planted with lots of space. other then the above fish I have no ideas what else would be suitable in there any suggestions?

add a few more tetras, cories and barbs. They'll be better in larger groups

Gouramis don't get on well with bettas.

Not really sure what to suggest with a betta in there. Maybe some more platies too?

yer i wasnt sure with the gourami but i know a few people who have successfully kept them with betta fish think it depends on the temperament of the betta mine is quite chilled out and is happy sepnding most of the day sat on top of his plant in the corner of the tank he shows no aggression towards any of my other fish.


wanted something a little bigger then tetras, and am not that keen on platys and mollies.

My experience is with pearl gouramis, and they stripped a betta of all his fins, wasn't a pleasant site. Not sure about smaller ones, but that was a big tank too.

I understand all of that, but those fish should be kept in groups of 6+ really. Platys and mollies aren't my favourites either, but not a lot of fish go with bettas. Is there any chance of getting a smaller tank for just your betta and then having a community tank for other things?

not really tbh my betta is my favourite fish so i wanted him to have a nice big tank, he lived in a biorb on his own and seemed very miserable. will probly buy a couple more platys and a group of tetras quite like the look of danios. think i will steer clear of the gourami dont want them nipping bettas lovely fins

what dwarf cichlids would be ok with all my other fish...thought cichlids had to live in a tank with just there own species, dont think ill get any of these as i heard they can be quite aggressive towards smaller fish
