What To Get Next? Food Query?

I have 120 litre tank started 9th October 2009. I say me but I bought for my son for this birthday and love it I have plastic plants as real ones scare me! And a tetratec 800 internal filter

I have had fairshare of beginner issues, now sorted finally (fingers crossed)!

In the tank I have

4 platys
1 clown loach (currently trying to rehome)
1 plec (I know I'll be told off about this one )
2 male guppies
4 female guppie
4 glowlight tetras
3 zebra danios (crazy dudes)
3 leopard danios

Hows my stocking levels and choices? What can I put with what i have, anything to help the tank?? Shrimp? Kind of thing. I'm not sure I want fill to max capacity so the current fish have 'zoom room'.

Also food, I feed currently tetra flakes, sinking wafer pellets and frozen blood worm (twice a week). I was feeding flakes once a day as had high ammonia but been warned about overfeeding so worried now I'm not feeding enough. How often should I pellet it? Clowny takes control of the pellet (usually put 1 in). Should I flake and bllod worm together or is this too much in one go?

I never see plac eating just sucking on everything, is this ok??

i feed my fish once a day and miss a day in the week, so they only get feed 6 days a week the more you feed the more ammonia problems you could have.

it looks like you have the max amount of fish you can have for a tank that size.

your plec may be ok , what plec is it they come in all diff sizes.

Do you find your crazy danios eat all the food before the guppies can get a look in?

I do, and am a bit worried. My guppies are outnumbered and do lucky to get a single flake, no matter how hard i try. I've set up a feeding ring for the danios, then simultaneously put some flake in the opposite corner for the guppies to get, but the danios are still too quick!

I'm concerned about underfeeding my guppies while overfeeding the danios.

The whole feeding process worries me anyway!! Too much, not enough, how often. I'm told feed a pinch of flakes, then I read feed should be gone in a minute, food in my tank barely last 10 secs so I put in a bit more and same again, gone!!

I know what you mean re the danios, they are turning out to be my favs, esp the zebras. I have had 2 of them a while and really noticed how big they have grown when I got another zebra and 3 leopards. my guppies though seem to be ok with food, its my plec I worry about as he doesn't seem interested in grabbing his sinking wafers before the clown loach reaches it and the other ganets reach the other Although today (for the first time I add) we saw him hogging a wafer, thank god, maybe now he will realise what I have been trying to give him all this time

I have a Leopard sailfin pleco, prob so wrong for my tank?? Same shop I was advised the clowns loaches would be ok for me, I obviously realise this was a huge boob Although that issue is in hand.

I was just saying I was worried he wasn't getting actual food! Tonight was the first time I saw him eat. just the others are so fast but once he had it he wasn't letting go. Even the loach who is very dominant didn't manage to bully him. Quite impressed.

Hi have a Leopard sailfin pleco, is that ok? I am ashamed to admit I listened to my LFS which I have now learned is not a good idea.

Should have gone huge in the first place just want to do MORE!!!!!!!!!!!!

cheers! I've tried doing that but only one flake at a time, obviously the danios are on it like a rash. i'll give the multi-flake method a go. Fingers crossed they don't all get missed and sink to the bottom. *the horror*

I start a stopwatch as i put the first pinch in. Its usually all gone within 10 seconds so i just give very little and often til they've eaten for about a minute.

I have 3 zebras and 3 kyathit, the zebras are really cool but bully the slightly smaller kyathits. They're all so boisterous!

You know about the clown loaches and it's great that you're rehoming them

The sailfin can (and probably will) hit 2 foot long . . . so yeah, he needs a new home too. You'd be looking at a 6 foot tank at least for that beastie. They can get away with a little less swimming space as they are fairly inactive but a 6 foot tank is still on the small side.
