Hi folks.

I'm just in the process of getting rid of nuisance snails that came on plants with a copper treatment. When I think they are all gone I will add carbon to filter and when I get a zero reading for copper I wanted to add a few decorative snails to use as a clean up crew. My question is what species can anyone recommend.

As well as putting activated carbon in the tank I would also do a lot of water changes before attempting to add any inverts ( snail/ shrimp etc). Before adding any inverts I would also change the carbon that you used to remove the cooper from the tank. I am not 100% certain that  activated carbon alone will remove copper it is very hard to eliminate once added to an aquarium. But you could also try using something like Seachem Purigen or a better option would be to use Seachem CupriSorb which is designed to remove copper and other heavy metals.

Because your in Cyprus Apple snails should not be available to you. But you could possibly get some nerite snails, or Japanese Trapdoor Snails, even Giant Ramshorn snails. Nerites can be in fresh water but they can not breed successfully in fresh water, their youg need brackish conditions to mature.

Hope these suggestions help you.

Thanks for your reply. Sorry I should have mentioned I would will do water changes till the test kit registers zero copper. I can't get Seachem products where I live, maybe I could get them in Lefkosia but that's 170k journey for me.

Can you perhaps find seachem from online stores and get it that way, at least then it can be delivered to your door. Just do a search along the lines of Online Pet Supplies.
