What should I put in here

Yes 10ft is cool but the section is imho too small. I have seen individuals reaching nearly 20 cm in length and they are very fast and active swimmers. So 40x40cm is imho a little too small. I would at least go for 60x60cm.

I would have to agree, the tank is long but being too narrow for a large growing fish may pose problems and would likely look awkward as well.

I love the idea of 1 or 2 groups of small schooling fish and a bunch of plants, the possibilities are endless for the environment you could create for them!

If I personally had a tank like that I would be rather tempted to create a "river" themed tank, and control parameters to mimic a real-world river environment with only fish native to a specific area. I feel a truly natural feel for the inhabitants would make for a much more interesting aquarium.

Hey so a bit of an update. been shopping today filled it up a bit got some plantstuff some fake some real a castle and was tempted to get some cherry barbs
Starting to look fuller

Does that heater not have a "Do not submerse past this line" marking on it?

Nice job by the way, I look forward to seeing the tank once you're done filling it, and again in a year once the plants have filled in.

Which I understand means "Keep this part out of the water."

I suppose yours does look a bit different than mine though, so could be a fully subresible unit.
