I am quite keen on a male betta. Would I neeed to change my substrate if I got cories? Because currently I have stones soo.. Female betta's... That could work.

My filter's output is quite strong, if I got a betta would they need the flow to be calmer or?

Yes Cories would need sand as substrate coz gravel could damage their barbels. I heard lots of people use children's play sand its cheaper.

Bettas would appreciate more of a calmer water current, although some people have ways of adjusting the strength of strong filters. I use to block it with a tall plant.I use to have an internal filter that you can adjust the direction of the water output and I aim it at aquarium glass wall at the back. With female Bettas try to get similar sizes and lots of hiding spots, plants and caves. Good Luck!

Ah I see, I prefer the stones so I'll have to figure out other tankmates for him.

For this filter it doesn't have a way to adjust it, tall plants could work I suppose, but I'll still have to try and find a way to calm it even more than that. I think I'm definitely going for a male, so thanks for all your help :3

So I was looking up possible tankmates, and apparently Otto's can go with Betta's quite well? Anyone had any experience with this combination? - Ooop never mind, just read that they need 20G+ that idea out the window then!

If the gravel is smooth and round it should be fine with Cory's, it's the jagged stuff that messes up their barbels.

endlers and bettas should be fine but it dependce on the betta. i would go for pygmy corys if you can they only get a few cm so you could have quite a few.

Okie dokie. I'm pretty sure I'm going for the betta and the pygmy cories, but I'll change the substrate to sand. Should I leave in the marbles? And how many cories should I be getting?
