Hey all,
I know it sounds so awesome...a 1 us gallon tank! This is my fifth tank and was just given to me for free. First let me say there is noy way i am putting any type of fish, betta included, in there. It is just too small IMO. But i am sure there is something cool i could do with it?? I really dont want to cultivate any worms or other "gross" live foods because i am really kinda squemish. Does anyone have any suggestions for what to do with a 1 gallon tank?

Drew

p.s. it came with a small air pump and air stone so there can/will be some aertion in the tank. also, there is no heater but the perso who gave it to me says the light keeps it at about 75 degrees f. thanks.

African Dwarf Frog, Shrimp (Ghost, Cherry, Amano), Apple Snails off the top of my head.

All good ideas, especially the adf since i have one and think they are great. I guess i forgot to mention there is no filter, just the airstone, so would you still reccomend the above? Are apple snails the same as mystery snails? thanks for the input, anyone else please feel free...thanks again...

Apple snails need at least 2.5 gallons and I probably wouldn't put an ADF in anything less than that. Pretty much shrimp or small snails.

No filter is fine for them all provided they get water changes every few days and the temperature stays moderate. Mystery Snails are almost always Apple Snails but Apple Snails themselves consist of a few species. The best to get IMO is Pomacea bridgesii.

I was thinking maybe it would be useful for a very temporary fry setup? I could be way off but my halfbeaks are spawning so she will probably have fry in about 6 weeks...or would that be a problem as it doesnt have a real filter? just a thought...

No mosquito larvae? How about sea monkeys; I hear a 1-gallon is the perfect size for sea monkeys.

You know i was actually thinking about them because i dont consider them too gross....and arent they just brine shrimp anyway?? Could i use them to feed to my bigger fish? thanks wendy.

As I said before; you can not keep apples in a 1g. They get too large and produce too much waste.

Not all of the species get that large and provided you keep up with water changes, you can.

But why not just go for the wellbeing of the snail and get smaller ones, like ramshorn?

That's another option. I was just listing the ones off the top of my head. There are a dozen kinds of snails, shrimps or similar inverts that could live quite happily in a 1 gallon. I think frogs or shrimp would look better but I threw the snail in as an option.

I would maybe suggest Malaysian Trumpets. ramshorns are probably not the best idea on second thought, I thin you'd have thousands in a few months.

Anyone know anymore about "Sea monkeys" in which i am thinking are just small shrimp which may be useful in the future? I think i am either gonna do that or the adf because they are great. thanks.
