i have a uk 27 litre tank with a heater, fliter and a light. its now empty because i got a new 100 litre tank. after i have cyled my tank i want to have a betta in it but what other fish can i have in there which dont need a air pump ?

Bettas are soooo much happier by themselves. My advice would be to make a fantastic looking tank for a single, beautiful betta :)

^^ That is REALLY BAD advice, i agree with the other betta keepers he will be much happier by himself, they are solitary creatures :good:

Definately agree......let him have his own space. He'll be much happier and you can decorate to your hearts content to make him a lovely and interesting home :good:

i love your bettas they look the best i have ever seen

I would disagree that Bettas are best kept alone, providing you choose tank mates VERY carefully.

We have three male Bettas, each living with several Corys/Catfish/Plecs quite happily.

For instance, Brinn lives in his 20 UK gallon tank with 2 Bronze, 2 Albino and 2 Peppered Corys, 2 Upside-Down Cats, 2 BN Plecs and 1 Striped Raphael Cat. Brinn was the last addition to the tank and there were no integration issues to his new surroundings. he plays with the Corys and spends most of his time showing off his finnage to the Plecs and anyone else who will watch.

Slippy lives in a 22 UK gallon tank with 6 Adolfoi and 9 Pygmy Corys, 2 BN Plecs, 1 Striped Raphael, 3 Platys and a Marble Molly. again, the Betta was the last addition to the tank. He was a bit lof an irritable sod to begin with, chasing the Platys around but settled in after a couple days. However, once the Platys and Molly have given birth and the fry removed from the tank, they will be getting themselves part-ex'd against something more to my taste, maybe a couple of Pangasius or Pictus if the tank can cope with them but I will be looking in to that a bit more in depth when the time comes.

Thanks.....that's really nice of you to say :good:

We do love all our Bettas.....such funny little characters at times!!!!

in your 1st post you say your tank is 27l which is roughly 6 gal but in a later post you say its 37l?
i have a tank of 6 gal containing one of my males and he has no tank mates and loves the space

sorry im not very good at typing its 27

I disagree - pygmy cories would go good with him, and the tank is fine for a small shoal.
Likewise you could have shrimp.
Or otos if the tank is established enough.

I have had galaxy rasbora in a tank not much bigger than yours with a male betta as well.

Options are so much bigger than some people make out.
Of course everything is trial and error and dependent on individual bettas.

But i have had far more sucess than failure...
