just arrived home abou 10 minutes ago turned on my light on there he was dead at the surface my moscow black male guppy i was abit gutted but not really as i was expecting it to happen sooner or later ....

then i looked to see where my red male betta was and found him lying dead with his tail fin all missing and with his head down into my gravel

then to some things up i couldnt see my male goodeid anywhere in the tank so out of couriosity i lifted up my bogwood and there he was dead and floated to the top

1 clown loach 2 cardinal tetras 4 guppies 2 guppy fry 1 peppered cory 1 goodied 4 black phatom tetras

tetras can be a bit mean in small number like that and bettas sometimes don't like guppies since they're flashy but I don't know what could have killed the betta. very odd.

Yeah, does anyone know whether the "black phantom tetras" are the same as the black tetras they often label as "black skirt tetras" these days? I can't remember.

The black skirts can be extremely mean and quite stealthy about it if I remember right, and would be more inclined to look outside their shoal if only 4 in number as Bert says.

But that's not necessarily the explanation for your losses. Sorry it was so bad. Most of us went through plenty of beginner learning about how important stocking can be in our first years of tanks, the sense of it can be slow coming and still unpredictable even with experience.

the crazyest thing is that you expect something to be wrong like ammonia or nitrite etc or even alot of your fish acting stragely but they all was fine expect the guppy who should signs of nitrite poisioning even though there is a 0 reading very odd

Quick death rate, loss of colour on some specimins, no symptoms on others while poor water quality is confirmed as not the caurse... Sounds like internal Bacteria to me... Guppies are renowned for suseptability various diseases, IB being one of them...

I'd do a 30-50% waterchange when you can, and add a dose of Interpet Number 9 :good: After 4 days, add the second dose, and after 7 days, repeat the large waterchange and doses... After that, finish with another large waterchange :good:

All the best of luck sorting it, IB can be hard to properly diagnose and treat... do a bit of research and satisfy yourself that this is the problem before you do go out and treat

Hi jackson 10 :)

I'm sorry to hear about your losses.

Depending on the bacteria responsible, infections can either develop slowly or sweep through a tank like wildfire. Your new guppy may have been ill when you brought him home.

If this is the case, in addition to medicating the tank, make sure there is no uneaten food in the gravel and that you have good enough water circulation to oxygenate the water.

Another possibility to consider in cases of numerous deaths, is that a foreign substance may have gotten into the water. Did you or anyone else use a cleaning product, room freshener spray, or similar item around the tank? If that's the case, nothing but big water changes (and a lot of luck) will save your remaining fish.

My expreience with toxins entrering a tank, is that the whole tank crashes.... Very puseling, but Ichworm's toxins idea is a possibility

All the best

From what research I have done (and I am quite the newbie, so I may be wrong), these fish are totally different. The black skirt tetras are a little bit more round and appear to be wearing a skirt -- I'm guessing hence the naming! The black phantom tetras are thinner and look a little more shark like.
