What Lighting?

Hi, one aspect of fish keeping I have never got to grips with is the lighting. Having never had any real success with live plants I now have a fondness for all things silk.
Also I have never had a display tank,so to speak. Well now I have set up my new 55usg in my front room this issue needs tackling!
It is a brackish tank with just sand and [dead] ocean rock....and as from tomorrow my two Gsp's [moving up from their smaller tank]. I have set up just a normal tube and it looks awful....really stark...it needs IMO something more subtle!

So....what do I use? There is obviously no need for lighting for the benefit of the fish....just some thing that looks nice.....Suggestions please [ebay links would be fantastic]

hi lisa,

like you i never had much luck with plants due to wrong lighting so i changed to a hagen glo t5 twin tube starter and a pair of arcardia tubes,1 is a daylight tube and the other is a plant tube.

tank looks great and now plants are growing realy well,although i am growing possibly to much algea which i need to look into but t5 set up seams to be the way forward.

when i looked into t5 set up i found on jbl website a realy good guide to what and how many tubes to use depending tank size and what you want tank for ie fish or plants or both.if i can re find it i shall post a link for you to read up on.
