What Kind Of Plant Is This?

I just got this from a friend yesterday because he had a lot in his tank and he was going to get rid of some anyway...does anyone know what kind of plant this is? (not the red and green plastic one in the background lol )

Elodea.

Grows like mad, not fussy about fertilizers or light; will grow outside or in coldwater tanks too; great for fry

+1 elodea is one of the better "beginner" plants. It is also often used as an oxygenator plant in ponds.

thank you! yea that's good then because I have fry right now...4 that im trying to save and although Im not new to fish, I am new to live plants Do you suggest it for the 50 gallon I just bought? What kinds of plants would be good for it? I'm doing a more natural look with a sand bottom

anubias attached to driftwood would look good. Minimal care, doesn't need much light, large heart shaped dark leaves.

Look for undemanding (labelled "easy") plants on tropica.com.. most of those should be ok. What sort of lighting and how much of it do you have? How many hours per day?

I'm pretty bad with plants, but all these do well for me; Java fern, Java and xmas moss, vallis (the straight and the giant anyway; I don't seem to have much luck with the twisted), cryptocorynes, Amazon swords, anubias and dwarf chain sword

well i live in the desert and the sun is in my window for most of the day...but I like to have my curtains closed most of the time, so not usually a lot of sun...this is if i actually put it in my room, but i might put it in the living room, too...does it matter what kind of fish I get? I am thinking of shrimp (cherry or ghost) , endlers maybe, guppies, mollies, and idk what else yet...i still don't know what kind of bottom feeder fish to get
