I am begining to set up my 30 gallon, and once its cycled I want to keep several SA dwarf cichlids. However, I am using a sustrate that consists of not sand but very fine gravel becuase I want a zig zag eel or some other fish that is like an eel in shape. What do you guys think would be a good choice? Is there anything out there that doesn't get to big, and will be okay with SA dwarf cichlids?

every freshwater eel that i know of would quickly out grow a 30 gallon tank

Your best bet is probably kuhli loaches, but they would prefer sand. If the gravel has no sharp edges then it might work.

tiger barbs? i have a school of them with some kribensis.

I don't really care for tiger barbs but thanks for the suggestion. I did see some kuhli loaches at the store, they were pretty cute looking. How many could I keep? My substrate is very fine without any sharp edges so they wouldn't have a problem.

I think you'll want at least 6 of them.
