What Kind/how Many Fish

so my stocking will be:

4 platys
3 female bettas
3 shrimp
6 neon tetras

is that good or should i have less or more?

Neons....excellent choice for schooling fish!

And as far as cories.....if you have sand in there.....a couple of those wouldn't hurt anything either. If you don't have sand I wouldn't recommend it....they will be miserable on top of gravel.

Many people like to say you need at least 4 cories as they are schooling fish, etc. But you only need a couple in the smaller tanks because they recognize the other cory is always nearby and not going anywhere, so they both feel safe. :good:

Neons are very nice. They can be hard to maintain tho' and are somewhat picky about water quality. I like them better than cardinal tetras... not sure why, I just do.

same here lol

apparently they are picky about water quality. But nitrItes and ammonia at 0 and nitrAte at 20ppm is not that hard to maintain unless your tap water contains nitrAte or nitrIte

Neons are a little more sensitive to bad water quality than other tropical fish.

They will be fine as long as you don't use them to cycle the tank and as long as you keep the water clean. Just don't overstock (which obviously you're not going to do), don't overfeed, and keep up on regular water changes and you will be fine.

i find my neons the easiest fish ever to keep - tank has gone 3 weeks without a water changes rising to 80ppm nitrate, went through a mini spike (ammonia and nitrite went to 0.5 and 0.25 respectively for a week after the fluval failed again) and keep out of harms way...

however i have had 3 zebra danios die.

Oh man....that really sucks. Well....tell her birthdays are really nothing but traditional pagan celebrations and really don't have to be honored anyway. Then again...that might backfire...they might take the tank back altogether. You could tell her that setting it up now doesn't count, because it takes at least 2 months to cycle and until then its not really a full blown "fish tank".

OK....I'll hush....I might get someone in trouble. :D

haha im telling her im "planning it out" and im drawing a diagram to show where it will be. part of the reason im getting this tank is to get rid of two tanks, so ill have only 2 (community +fry/hospital). i think ill get the equipment this weekend and set it up next week since schools out tomarrow. then on my birthday il add the fish lmao

*Edit* the filter will have all the filter media fomr my current 10 gallon in my sig*
