What Is This?

Hi

I've noticed a a stringy white substance carpeting the leaves of my plants and i cant get rid of it and it makes the tank look like crap! :angry:

Every time i brush it off it just comes back really quickly, sometimes in a matter of minutes. I tried brushing it all off the doing a water change
right after to remove it from the water but that did nothing, it still just keeps coming back. I suspect its some algae so i reduced the hours of light
with no luck.

Can anyone tell me wat this stuff is and how i get rid of it? :blink:

Looks like a fungus of sorts, what are your water stats for ammonia and nitrIte, nitrAte and ph, these could give an indication of why you have it. Is this a newly cycled tank/still cycling? Any fish in this tank at the moment? I assume those are real plants? Do you dose with any ferts? What lightening do you have and how long is it on for daily?

Yeah they're all real plants though the tank technically isnt supposed to be a planted one, its kind of semi-planted :fun:

The tanks been up and running for about 6 months now so its fully cycled and everything and ive got around 2wpg of t8
lighting (2x 36w 10000k+ 2x 36w 6500k) which are usually on for about 9-10 hours but have reduced to around 8 to see if
it had any effect on the fungus/algae looking stuff, which it didnt

and i also add seachem potassium and seachem iron to
maintain the plants i do have.

Ive got a school of tigerbarbs, 4 angels and 4 clown loaches(which is why i can't have a fully planted tank :fun:

)

I just get really mad when i see all that white stringy stuff all over the plants and rocks..it makes the tank look messy and unclean :angry:

/www.theplantedtank.co.uk/algae.htm see if there is anything that matches what you have, if not, you may get more information down in the planted forum, as they seem to know about these types of things.
