My LFS has both these items in the shop

the clam is advertised as a maxima clam? if it is then it needs to much light for me but I wondered if you could identify it as a definate maxima? Probably not but worth a try

plus this kind of aneanome thing which I think is stunning in a simple way. not sure if I;ve captured it well enough in pic, its clear with ribbed tentacles and seems to pulse a bit, its not for sale justina display tank at the back of rock so i can;t see the base

I wasn;t going to but wondered what the anenome thing is as I;d like one when I;m in a position to house one

argh...id written loads more than that...that was just the first line.

anyways...the little clams are really inefficient with photsynthesis so need crazy amounts of food and light

the nem im unsure of. looks similar to some sand nems

Clam looks like a maxima they need good light as Ben said I have mine under 6 x T5s and a pair of LEDs 14" below the surface

The Nem looks like a sand nem or a Tube Nem aggresive nems to my knowledge :p would skip both less you have more light for the clam and no fish for the nem :)

pity about the clam was hoping it had been misidentified and was actually a deresa. I haven;t got enough light for a maxima

the nem looks lovely a pity they are predatory. I;ve always admired it in the shop, its not colourful but just looks very cool in my opinion

Nems and tube nems aren't my strong point, but are you guys sure that's a tube nem and not a Bartholomea annulata? I've just never seen a tube nem with ribbed tentacles like that.

I saw some tube nems almost exactly the same as that in my LFS at the weekend (well, I say they are tube nems, had the same head and the body was in a tube, that's about as scientific as my ID'ing goes :) ).

I have asked this befoer and remember ski telling me the answer but I can't remember. How do you tell the difference between a maxima and a deresa. Is it that deresa dont have such "wavey" shells "they are straighter edges" or something like that?
