The first one as correctly identified by Sir Minion is a Cetopsis catfish, probably a coecutiens. They are not community fish and will eat anything else they are kept with, these are some of the most predatory fishes on the planet which will either swallow prey whole or tear it to bits one bite at a time, sometimes even burrowing into the flesh and eating it inside out.

The second pic is a Anostomus anostomus.

Well at least he knows what it is now.

I thought I had seen the first one! Looks like the feature in this months PFK - as stated, blue whale catfish- and as described, a pretty savage eater!

Scary!

yeah you have a problem on your hands there. they are very simmilar to phiranas (sp?) in eating habits. dont put your hand in with any cuts or you'll need new fingers.

GO AND BUY PRACTICAL FISH KEEPING NOW. its the issue with a shoal of pencilfishes on the front (august i presume). there is a really interesting (worrying for you and more so for your bala shark) on blue whale catfish....

"The Blue whale catfish, Cetopsis coecutiens: It looks odd and has an unforgettable method of feeding. Richard Hardwick profiles this amazing catfish."

quote from PFK website.
