What Is My New Fish?

I think it was a joke

So, toov, are you one of those rare people who went for marines first and freshwaters after? That's interesting because most people do it the other way round and claim marines are more interesting than fresh. I'll admit, seahorses and butterflyfish intrigue me, but I've always stuck with freshwater and feel perfectly content where I am :p

About your new oscar, be very careful what you choose to put it in with. IMO, as far as 'aggressive' new worlds go, oscars aren't actualy all too bad - but they do need their space. I've seen them kept with large loaches, plecs, large schooling fish and other large new worlds quite successfuly. Just take care not to over-crowd as you'll have an all out war on your hands. Note that you'll get more oscar info if you post in the New World cichlids section. :)

I agree - I thought it was a joke too.

I don't think we can expect an answer from toov any time soon. He/She joined on the 27th of Oct 05 and hasn't been active since the 29th -_-

I have never insulted anyone on this board, and I dont use smileys, they annoy me

I can't even begin to imagine someone knowing a moorish idol before an oscar. It takes all sorts.

that's an oscar. they grow to be over 12" long, whether you like it or not. they are quite aggressive and an adult will claim as much territory as possible in a tank (killing off most other tankmates in the process). oscars will often reach their full adult size in under two years.

ONE adult oscar needs a MINIMUM 75g tank.

this is why we always, always, always research first and buy second!

It's 29 gallon not 75.

Is that really so ? I think not.
The cichlid experts reckon even 100gal minimum.....and a few other googles will confirm the above fact.

29 gallons would be impossible to keep an oscar in without stunting it's growth. The waste would keep the water filthy without immense filtration as well no doubt.

well i have only ever owned moorish idols and a butterflyfish before but now i have 4 siamese fighter fish and this oscar. i have 4 30g nano reefs w/ no fish, 1 310g w/ moorish idols, 2 fishless cycling 90g, 4 5gs with my bettas, 1 145g with the oscar, 1 70g w/ brown butterflyfish and last but not least, 1 empty 65g i am giving to my neice for christmas. :)
moorish idols? :/ for how long. you cant keep em more than 6 or so months without a 300 + gallon tank. probly the most temperamental fish ive ever seen and they are a pain to get to eat.

I wasnt judging one way or the other really just pointing out it could of easily be taken out of context as in most cases without adding a similie (however gay you think they are) or a "just j/k" or similar afterwards squeezing humor down a modem can be difficult (more so when its added onto an old topic and totally out of context and off topic)

I call BS. I don't believe him. Can't really say why I just don't buy it.
