What I Hate About Fishkeeping...

when i say im not interested in cichlids, im talking proper cichlids. ive got rams and had an apisto in my community, and obviously the angel. i think what i dont like, and it might just be down to not knowing enough, but cichlids all seem to be roughly the same shape and act the same. i like the idea ive got cories on the bottom, banjos buried in the sand, shoals of tetra darting about and synos roaming around. and plecs just doing nothing. just seems like more variety to me.

but if we all liked the same thing it would be a rubbish hobby

I started with a 20gall two and a half footer, filled it with tetras etc and probably had a nice planted community tank.
I discovered shell dwellers so changed stock. I then added some other Tanganyikan cichlids. The tank is to small for a Tanganyikan community.
I have a 48ltr fishbox, it's a lovely wee tank, stocked it and stripped it a few times now, added a 3d background and even had an oversized external filter and external heater. I have stripped the 20 gallon tank more times than I care to remember, have cluttered it with ornaments then had it bare, even no substrate, recently painted the rear and underside ha ha , always changing it and wondering what I can do to it next.
I recently picked up a 190ltr 4foot tank, it's full of fry, It's been rescaped lots already and I'm already planning my next stock and scape, headaches ahoy as I was going to put some baby Tropheus in there and move them to a 5foot tank that I don't even have yet, today I totally change my mind AGAIN and plan for a Tanganyikan community......
I ask you , are we ever truly happy with our set ups ?
No sooner is one project completed than we are thinking what we can do next, and I thought keeping fish was meant to be relaxing

The expense and the aches and pains from lifting large heavy tanks.

Having set up two more 4 footers in the last 48rs, scrubbed them, cleaned the gravel, set up new filters, cleaned wood, had a 30g water leak from a new filter, drained and re-filled the tanks due to tannins etc, I ache from head to toe and to top it off, sliced my finger with a knife whilst cutting filter pipes to size

call me strange but all the setup and maintainence etc i really enjoy, especially the setting up of a new tank .

I enjoy setting them up, I dont enjoy how much they cost to set up and how much I hurt afterwards

once a month me and my mate spend 3 or 4 hours going to about 5 shops looking for some nice new fish, shops that are far enough away to not reguarly visit. we went earlier in the week, and by the end i realised somethign that annoys me - buying a fish in the first shop you go to, because it looks great and is a decent price, only to go to the next shop and find a better fish or the same fish at a better price, or something entirely different you would rather have in your tank taking up that last bit of stocking space

I love going to the lfs but hate seeing all the fish i so wish i had...
