I thought it was Tapajos from memory (on the shop label) now I'm not sure, it has a red stripey tail

From the look of it I would say it's a Tapajos geo. It should color up as it grows. These are such cute geos. How many do you have? They like to be in groups of 4-5 more if you have the room.

Hi, the bigger ones were much more colourful but I wanted smaller ones due to price. I got 3, not sure if I have room for more? How quickly do they grow?

Yep they look like young tapajos, either orange or red head. They are fairly slow growing, max out around 8", a group of 3 is fine for your size tank, although an upgrade to a 75g would be preferable.

Thanks mate, I am definitely going to upgrade sooner or later, because we are planning to move house and you know I wouldn't keep too many large fish in my tank, I would rehome them to a larger tank if it meant them being happier, but at the mo they are little dots and you know I am hugely over filtered, so it's all good for now

Ignore that 75g comment, yours is a 70g, thought it was a 55g, so they will be fine

Dare I ask how goes the eheim??

Have a look at my thread in Hardware about aquatic royalty! It's not silent but it's better x

To be fair an 8 inch red head is a proper specimen fish and def a male but its usually around the 6 inch mark. You should be looking at 2 years + for adult size. I have some altifrons which get bigger than these but they have got from 1.5 inches to 2.5 inches in about about 3 months really really want them to hit at least 4 inches by christmas but dont think they will....

I have 5 of those lovely things too, not as big as yours yet...vid in my tank journal (link in sig), one was added a couple of months ago and the other 4 were only bought last week

Almost certain it's a Tapajos but there are a couple of species that look almost identical until bigger...still the chances are it is as they are more common that the lookalikes

Mine are about 2 inches max, bought from Maidenhead Aquatics, they had bigger, but was more expensive  spent enough on fish lately, thought smaller/cheaper would be better for my tank and my pocket!
