What Fish Should I Breed I Have A Opportunity

well we are clearing out our roof and we found two ssmall lik 5 gal tanks, so it got me thinking im going to start breeding fish

i will have like 4-5 ,5-10 gallon tanks from boot sale mostly and i all with sponge air filters ecept one which can have a elite mini filter i have spare i want freshwater fish that arnet guppys or any other common live bearers they have to be not really impossible to keep. and not require live food

is there any that would fit /match that list

also there will be heaters obviosly if i can get away without them that would be great as they will be in a cuboard with the door closed except when im looking /feeding them with a single strip bulb over the top

is there any

Why not think about breeding corys? Most of them don't require heaters unless it gets very cold. Here's something to read about the subject:

i could have a 2 ft tank for the main group and then two 1.5 ft tanks

so could i have

the main group in the 2 ft with the fluval 4 + with two extra filters and a two sponge filters so there ready to move into the baby corie tanks

and then have have the two 1.5ft tanks ready so i can

sepperate the eggs into the two tanks and when they hatch they can grow on a to a size where they can join the parents and then sell them on

if you are a beginer to breeding ... i insit on bn plecos

kribs are fairly easy too

i breed my 4 inch bns in a 60 litre 2 ft tank ... they are in perfect condition and i dont remove the female from the tank ... the father will guard the eggs and fry until they are ready ...
they will need a heater... if possible its better to get a guard for your heater... mine is inside the filtration unit

step by step for bn plecos ...

1 get a fully cycled tank about 2 foot is good
2 get a small dark cave , i recommend a half a coconut with an opening or a clay cave
3 get yourself a nice big fertile male
3 get yourself a nice big fertile femal
4 turn the heat up to 28 degrees celcius
5 wait about a week
6 is the male guarding a cave ... (he should be)
7 if not keep waiting

bns should give out new fry batched every 4-6 weeks ... mine have been more frequent ... 2 week minimum 4 week maximum
i loved breeding mine... just made me feel good and the fry are so fun to watch .. they grow pretty slow but you will notice that they are realy active and will sweep algy of anything like nothing on earth!

if there are any other tankmates the male will protect his young very well ... even first time daddys are briliant daddys .... there is no need for interuption of any kinda the male will let the fry out when they are ready and guard them .... my male nearly killed a mollie.. i had to intervine aat this point... he trapped her in the cave and beat her lifeless.... i lifted the cave to see a huge amount of fry and one scared mollie. its just better not to have other tankmates imo ... usualy they will stay away but sometimes

yeah i will just have bn and i will get 4 then also

should it be 1 male 3 females or 2 of each


would slate caaves and and 1 piece of bog wood ok as i want to keep it minimal so i can catch the young ones easier


also how long does it take for them to get to a sellable sizee and do they need to be seperated from the parents

slate cave will work ... some people make a tube out of four sides and aquarium silicon

covering the end so there is only one entrance

bogwood is needed for digestion and stuff but because of its shape it wont make a good cave... i reccommen the coconut... cheap and effective!



also ... if you want to sell em OBV

feed em alot of algy wafers i give mine 3 a day for about 30 fry ...
shops will usual take em at about one inch .. they will reach this at about 2-3 months

any substrate is fine, the parent wont eat the babies but when they reach about 1 inched lone the parent will act as if its just another pleco ... ie chasing it away ..
if you take the cave out.... it wont realy stop the breeding, my femal layed eggs on the side of the glass once
