What Fish Is This?

Please can anyone tell me what this random fish is? I went to my lfs and bought some cardinal tetras and when I looked in the bag at home this little guy was in there too. They got the tetras from out back so it must have been a mixed tank.

I dont think it is the type of fish that I cam keep as I have a community tank and its only a fry at the moment. But if I have an idea of what it is and how to look after it, then I can rehome him when he is a bit bigger if I need to. Any help would be really appreciated. He is striped and his dorsal fin has a purple tinge. Or is he too small to tell. sorry about the pic quality was hard getting one.

Oooh, thats a bad sign if he was in with the Cardinal Tetras. It appears to be an African Cichlid of some sort. Most African Cichlids are aggressive to some extent and should not be mixed with peaceful fish

I will try and get a better pic, thanks. Perhaps they had them in the tank before the cardinals. Obviously the guy didnt see it in the bag and I didnt check it until I got home and a surprise. They are quite a good family run lfs.

How long do you think i could keep him before i rehome him? Do you think I will definately have too. He looks so cute.lol! How hard is it to breed chiclids? Not that i am going to just wondered if this was a special little chappy or if they breed easily generally. x

Out of them it looks most like the blue colbalt zebra one. But I cant say exactly as the colours on my little guy are different, he does have a blue tinge on his dorsal fin but not on his body. They did have some fish like this in the front of the shop. The names were long but I think it may have just been the latin type name, I may have to go back to the shop and have a look discretely.lol! What type of water do they like and will I defo have to get rid?

Honestly, it could be one of hundreds.. leave it a little and it'll be easier to narrow it down.

Looks like an african cichlid to me, you should get him away from your cardinals.

Its most likely a Neolamprologus similis or Neolamprologus Multifaciatus
