What Filter Is Best For My Tank.

I would personally recommend the tetratecs,has i have 3 of them no experience with eheim externals though so i can't compared

Edited to add tetratec ex700 would handle that tank,although if funds would allow,i'd go ex1200 just in case you ever upgraded the tank

I have a Fluval U4 internal running in my 620T, which because I'm using the same sponges/pads that it came with last summer (that get a rinse in removed tank water weekly), is probably nowhere near the theoretical 1000lph. My Hypoptoma; baby Upside Down Catfish; Sterba cory and Emerald Brochis youngsters have no complaints.

I've yet to ever try the built-in filter, something I plan to do soon.

the built in one that i had was poor in my opinion so instead i got a fluval internal one (not sure on the exact model) and i think that is good but i still think an external one will be better as it will not be sitting in the tank clogged up with the dirt so that should be better for the tank.

Im going to go for the ehiem 2217 as my girlfriend has said she will buy it for my birthday so thats good lol.

And thanks for the info minnnt, i will be popping to the fish shop over next couple of weeks as i want to leave the fish to breed before i change the tank around.

As for the breeding this is 3rd time lucky, first time they killed all the fry within a week, secound time i caught around 50 fry and placed them in a net and left around 20 in the tank and the male ate them all including the ones in a net as he managed to suck them through the smallest holes possible, What would people recommend for fry so that i am able to keep them (I havent got the room to buy a smaller tank for them as i have to many reptile tanks in my room)

Thats a shame mate.

Unfortunately the only way to keep fry like that is to use a seperate tank. If they're a new pairing then they will take a few times to get the hang of it. They should be able to look after a few babies in the tank with the stocking you have. I would try and source a small second hand 30 or so litre tank for the fry to go in. Even if it's just banged on a cupboard somewhere out of the way, at least your 95% gaurenteed some survivors.

The TetraTec ex1200's are brilliant, couldn't recommend them enough. Verminator89 is selling one for £60 delivered

Im sure i can make room for a small tank for the fry somewhere in my room as i have a spare heater and i will have a spare filter when the new one comes, the ehiem 2217 has just been ordered. i have the timer so all thats left is going to be the sand Thanks for all you help

No probs mate. Make sure you have ample buckets to hand when you do the substrate change. This way you can gut the tank and give it a good scrub from top to bottom, inside and out! Make sure you get some before and after pictures and share them with us on here, i love tank transformations!

Can anyone help, i have got the ehiem classic 2217 and it has come with a blue, black and white filter pad. Is there perfectly ok to use or do i need to add anything else to it.
