Now that I've got some clearer pictures could someone tell me the tail types? Much as it doesn't look in the picture... The female, the one in the cup, is indeed a female. Short ventals, shorter fin, different flare, oviposter blah blah blah. And before anyone asks, the cup is in there for happy hour. They need to see eachother sometime, don't they?

"Grr... whoop yourself into gear man!"

So cute

lovely fish..same tail shape as one of mine dunno what..sorry

Delta, super delta.. not sure what the difference is between those 2 if there is one at all heh.
Are you sure the one in the cup is female? She has a beard... my females flare as well, but they definitely do not have the beard.

They're both totally gorgeous though. Very pretty!

there isnt much difference aside from super deltas are the closest to being halfmoon without actually being halfmoon. regular deltas have straighter edges like the super delta but have a tail span that is bigger than a veil yet not quite as large as a super delta. does that help clear it up any for you??

im gonna say you have a delta who hasnt fully grown his tail out or a delta plakat cross.

Yeah, I'm sure, judging from the angle I can see what you mean. She's got a bit of an attitude. :eyeroll: But if you looks at her full on with the male the flares don't look anything alike, plus her ventrals and other fins don't even looks like plakats or even close. They really don't look like deltas to me, I'm VERY sure, deltas don't have a round tail, even when they're growing it out they'll still lookis more like a HMPK with a more delta than halfmoon picture. And combtail... hm... it's a possibility but I always thought the rays would extend further? On aquabid there are pictures of plakats like this... which is almost exactly what he looks like. He was labelled as thai too, though I don't know if that means anything since I wasn't smart enough to look at what the VTS were labelled as.

EDIT: Just as a reference, the second picture of the female flaring is what she usually looks like. Picture angle. Furthermore, considering they were likely from the same shipment spawn sibling, I wouldn't see why she has an oviposter and he doesn't.

Aquabid picture you posted is a Fighter Plakad and their tails are definitely shorter than your male.

Just breed them and let's see what's gonna happened. I'm sure they will turn out nice :good:

Yeah, that's what I'm doing. At least if they aren't full plakats the pet shop will take them - all they get is like two year old bettas from some supplier that died a while ago, and that's all he's got anymore... the old, already spawned vts.

Hi there

Your male is a quite uncommon roundtail or fantail, essentially a veiltail without the length and subsequent veil-like look. My male pearl is the same. If you do a google image search for betta fantail you should see 1 or 2 pics. Your female is a spadetail. A similar search should show you some pics of examples

Like I was saying, I'm pretty sure the female is indeed a female and it is the camera angle. I'll get some pictures to show you later of a more true angle, and comparing her and the males flare... I'm pretty sure she's a girl. Plus her fins are completely different including female-esque ventrals and an oviposter.

Here's a video. Comparing it to the male, I'm pretty confident she's a female, plus my other females have flared like that. If she is a male I don't get why her flare would be so much smaller than the male.
