Currently I have four tanks.. one holds community fish, one holds cichlids, and the other two are 5 gals, one holding a single male betta and the other holding a male betta and a dwarf frog. I am now planning to buy a completely new tank, and am hoping to move one of my bettas and the frog into it but add new fish.. any recommendations? Also just wanted to check that I can actually keep my frog in a community tank? The LFS told me it would be fine but as we all know they can't always be trusted..

Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

xx

dunno about the frogs, but the Betta will be fine with Tetra's etc stuff he can boss about and not get harrassed by

Yeah, make sure he doesn't get fin nipped by any tetras or barbs. I wouldn't put any barbs in the tank with a betta.
Make sure that the frogs get something to eat. I doubt anything would really attack it but make sure he gets food. Also, he would like to have some friends, frogs are actually pretty social.

Talking about him being sociable I was actually planning to go out and get two more of them tomorrow lol! :) I will probably buy a 30gal or something.. nothing too big and so far just know that its gonna house
* 1 male betta
* 3 dwarf frogs
* (maybe) some corys

??? don't know what else!

Thanks for your help!

I don't know if you like livebearers, but they would be good, as I know they wouldn't nip the betta. Maybe if you got a few neons they would look nice, my neons are very relaxed and don't chase anything. I see no reason not to get cories, as they have loads of character. Also, maybe a peaceful shoal of rainbowfish or Rasboras. A few more frogs wouldn't be bad, either.

When I had my first betta I kept him in a tank with White Cloud Mountain Minnows. They are very peaceful and I had no problems at all. :)

thanks for all your replies - any more suggestions will be greatly appreciated too!

Thanks everyone

I find from personal experience that bettas don't really bother bottom dwelling fish, so cories would defently be a good idea. Another cool fish you might want to look into is the khuli loach, I have 7 living with a male betta and they get along great. Tetras might work out as they would be able to out-run him but you have to make sure they don't pick on him. As already mentioned white clouded minnows usually get along great with bettas also, however I would stay away from livebearers as their bright colors might trigger Mr.Betta to attack. It has been done before so you just need to do trial-and-error here. Good luck!

Thanks Meg!

Im thinking now that I may go with
* 1 betta
* 3 dwarf frogs
* 2 kuhli loaches/1 dojo ???
* 5-6 corys of some sort
* 10 neons (or more or less not sure yet lol!)
* some white cloud mountain minnows
(still haven't decided what else yet!)

Thankyoo all again!

i have had lots of these and i agree they are very cute! mine would swim through my fingers like a cat winding round my legs whenever i had my hand in the tank for cleaning etc lol! the ones that i have now are a bit shyer so don't do that as much but nevertheless they do add alot of character to a tank!

I have sucessfully kept bettas with harlequin rasboras, khuli loaches, neon tetras, corydoras catfish, platies, guppies, cherry barbs, and others, and I have heard of them being kept with:

angelfish
plecostamus
cardinal tetras
fiddler crabs (my friend has these and a betta in a 55 gallon)
black skirt tetras
most other tetras

Im thinking now that I may go with
* 1 betta
* 3 dwarf frogs
* 2 kuhli loaches/1 dojo ???
* 5-6 corys of some sort
* 10 neons (or more or less not sure yet lol!)
* some white cloud mountain minnows
(still haven't decided what else yet!)

Thankyoo all again!

I would up the khulis to five, as they like to be in groups
Hope that helps :D

angel fish with beta's? hmmm thats interesting i thought betta's attacked ohter fish with long fins but then again they do seem a lot more peacefull then there suposed to be :good:

I love the little betta fella's and have tried in vain to integrate them into my community tanks. Go very careful. Things usually go okay until you turn the lights out. One of the few success stories I had was with Blood red platies - they looked stunning as well against the contrast of Mr.Blue fish (my daughters betta.) They are too fast for a betta and are submissive enough to swim away if he goes on the rampage. Platys are a good option, but you need something else that occupies the mid ranges:-
I would definately stay away from any deep bodied tetra, or large groups of tetra's, gourami's, kilifish, barbs,
