What Do You Put Your Tank On?

Just wondered what everyone puts their tanks on?
My 60l is on a stand but it isn't level and the tank leans back quite a lot as the base of the stand is so small and the floor's obviously not level. I'm thinking of changing the stand for maybe a tv stand or a different table so it should be more level but not sure what to use that'll hold the weight.

whatever you decide to use, make sure it is strong enough to hold the tank. Try to find something that is wider than it is tall. Also mto hold the weight, i use the old scale. For every gallon of your tank, add 8 pounds.

I would get a proper stand, I had a bad experience with a table and tank. The legs give way and smashed the tank.
You could make one with plenty of supports if you can.

my dad and me have made 2 stands for 2 of my tanks a 60l one and a 120l one. out of old book cases reinforced, then i normally slip a bit of carrymat (the sleeping mats used for camping) as we have lots of them spare under it...

if your making a stand ... remember use a spirit level my floor with my 60L tank isent level. but the stands fixed to the wall with level brackets and then i stuffed spacers under it for support... its seeming to take the weight fine =D

any TV stand or similar should tell you the weight it designed to take, so should be easy to identify a suitable one.

60 litres isnt that heavy, i would imagine most furniture would be able to handle it. Common sense will prevail.

This is what I'm worried about, we're in a 1st floor flat so if there's a tank disaster then it'll flood downstairs's flat too. I can't afford a new stand and the one I've got is one of the tall ones that just wobbles cos of the wonky floor. I thought something like a tv stand would distribute the weight better than the stand I've got.

to put 60l tank in context... its about 13-14 stone ish... that's about my weight so i knew it would be safe =D

60 litres of water is about 9 and a half stone + the weight of the tank + substrate. 14 stone would be the high end weight and probably a good one to work from.

I have my 95L on a set of draws, to test me and my brother sat on the top and checked for bowing or movement. It supported the wieght with ease

with my 60l i sat on it with a 15kg bag of sand (for extra) took the weight no problem

I have my 40 g tank on an old stand. It looks dangerous at first, but it's made from steel strips that are folded into an L shape, making it very rigid. Supported my dads piranha tank for about 5 years, and it's going strong for me too

This "test" is far from conclusive, unless you and your brother are going to live on that set of drawers 24/7 for several months or more, or you are going to move the 95l tank every few minutes to a new location.
