What are you doing today?

Walking here is a treat, as I slowly mutate into being a dog. Mabel, the real dog and I walk along paths on an island by the sea, connected via a causeway. It's only 2.5 km from the house.
You get a strong smell of pine resins, but also of the sea and of seaweed. The different trees all deliver their bounty, and I love just taking it in. Sometimes you're deep in the pines and spruce, then you go around a hill or a boulder and it's beach again. These aren't sunbathing beaches - although you can turn your skin blue rather than bronze if you care to.

I'm looking forward to my 7 km walk when it's snowing. You have to watch your footing with the tree roots, but it's so beautiful and silent. Eventually, the trails can become too treacherous, but that's weeks away and isn't for too long.

Voila, today we have maybe 5 cm of heavy wet snow, with more swirling around the early morning streetlights. It's pretty, but soupy, and it'll be gone soon as it isn't especially cold. My snow tires have been on for 2 weeks, and I'd already gotten my boots out of storage. And so it begins.

Yesterday I spent time walking a crack baby. The poor little thing is a few weeks old, and has already survived withdrawal in intensive care, and a raft of awful symptoms afterwards. That was the twitchiest baby I've ever met. What a start to life. A friend fosters infants in distress, and she has her hands full with that little one. It's truly a heartbreaker.

I'm a guy people hand babies to. I have a deep voice and I know how to rumble it. I can purr infants to sleep, and so I get a lot of infants handed over for an hour or two. It gives the Moms a break and a chance to have some grown up time. But this little one is upsetting. I deeply admire my friend for what she does. You have to be incredibly tough to be able to act in such kindness.

On one hand, you have whomever runs a business selling the addictive products that do so much harm. On the other, you have the doctors, nurses, foster parents and families who try to cope, and offer so much to our society to counter the cruelty. We're quite the species.

Thanks for trying to help. It's hard to get involved with kids like that, and most people just kind of pretend they don't exist because they (we--I must include myself in my less compassionate moments) just can't cope with the ugliness and maintain the ability to function.

Love is patient; love is kind; it always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. I know we differ greatly on our spiritual beliefs, Gary, but thanks for showing love to this little one, even if it was in a small way. Those little acts of love can add up.

Your friend is amazing, and you may tell her I said so. :)

So i needed to mail a package; no problem last night buy a label and print it. Oh wait the yellow ink is out - ok i'll print monochrome after all it is black and white. Wait it won't print. Google search - tell the utility monochrome. Download their windows utility (i normally print from linux); still doesn't work. text support. It won't print if yellow is out. Call support. It won't print if yellow is out (guess there was a firmware update since they wrote the faq saying it could print monochrome). Look up ink cost - $10 - won't be available till Dec 7th. swear. swear some more. Already spent $200 on inks for 100 pages no freaking way i'm buying more ink for this junk. Order new monochrome laser jet (different brand than crappy inkjet printer).
-
Go to ups store to mail package ask if they can print label. They say tape is free but label is $3.50. No freaking way. Walk next door to staples. Print label for 0.33ct. Oh wait they also have a ups drop off. Drop off package. Task accomplished. The staple bit was self service printing - just email a pdf, walk up to the printer enter code they mail back; insert credit card; set monochrome; and print it. Actually a pretty decent service all around and pretty fast once i know to do it. So thumbs up to staple. Thumb down to stupid arse inkjet maker.

Stupid arse inkjet printer - never buying that brand again.

Inkjet printers are one of the biggest scams of the century.

Not initially - i had gotten my dad a little canon inkjet printer for $29 at walmart around 200? maybe 2009 not sure. And he used it like two or three times a year but the ink would last forever even with head cleaning. I think it took 4 years before the cartridges had to be replaced.

I guess if you never use it, it will last forever ;-)
Anybody that actually uses their printer should get a laser printer. More expensive up front, but worth it in the long run.

I've never had an issue with my Canon ts-8220 printer. Since I print out photos I use ink jet. My Canon has 6 cartridges.

The thing with ink jet is that it is cheaper in the long run to pay more for the actual printer. Spend $50.00 on an ink jet and you think you got a great deal but they will kill you on ink. Cheap ink jets are a trap as they will go through ink much faster largely due to the cartridges holding less ink.

The Epson ink well series is a good idea but they don't do photos well enough for me. My Canon has the normal 4; black, yellow, cyan and magenta. However it also expands the black by having both pigment and dye based. It also has 'photo blue' which makes a big difference with photos as it improves color transitions.

My problem is actually the cleaning cycle between usage. Anyway This whole thing locking out the printer when an unused and unneeded colour goes empty due to head cleaning.

On to other things fishes are really expensive - my latest order included some h. eilyos (the reason i placed the order); p. haroldoi, n. marginatus, some more t. ornatus (my last 20 are 3 months old now and doing fine); a pair of l. simillma and a few other things . Lots of $$$$$$$$$$ but probably the last order for the next 12 to 18 months - though if they get in pangio meyresi ..... been waiting 3 years for them to be restocked.

I think soon i'll need another 12 foot aquarium.

Some cruel person on this forum has put up pictures of Morse Code tetras, and an easy to work with dealer has them in stock. I had a long look, but even with overnight shipping, it's still a nudge below zero at night here. And so, I will not order any....

It's a long winter.

Its ok you didn't really want them - they are just an expensive ember tetra ;)

Also i've always kept them and my other dithers in blackwater no clue if they will adapt to your cruel environment.... Having said that you need to move somewhere a bit warmer. I once visited my sister in wi in feb and the high that week was -10. Never again.....

Btw this will make you feel better:

Of course it is utter junk commentary and the picture is not very good either.

What was I thinking? What an awful fish. I bet it eats garlic by the clove, because it thinks that's good for its worms, and then tries to kiss the gouramis.

Only you can tell us what you were thinking however here is another write-up that suggest this undescribed fish might end up in its own genus:

LOL! Hwy! What is wrong with eating garlic? If I couldn't eat garlic just kill me as my life would already be over. ;)
