What's new

What are you cooking?

Ugh, lots of complaining about extra chickpeas. I took most & there were few in the curry anyway. He later apologized for overreacting. Kind of like when I put some in salads. I no longer add them to his but really, 3 peas is not a serving, or even "a lot", sheesh!

@Jennet, I've only had goat a few times, always in a curry. I don't think I've had curried lamb. Do you do a tomato based sauce, coconut milk or what? I tend to chicken or just veggie lentil or chickpea when I make curry...well, or open a pouch, lol.

I'm making mac & cheese with sides of green beans & maybe canned spinach. My husband needs comfort food after he still couldn't get sports on our new tv service today. I'm having salad withdrawal. Husband shopped yesterday but apparently it was at the wrong store for broccoli, romaine or some other things on my list. At least it was acceptable peanut butter store, I've been on a late night binge spree, lol.

I let Subway do the cooking tonight . A foot long turkey with almost everything really hit the spot .
I like Subway. Also have a Jimmy Johns but prefer Subway. Even other than being cheaper I like that they have hot subs. I really like the meatball subs but don't know that I want to know what is in them. I said that to a worker there once and he said they were 100% beef. I said ya, but what parts? ;) One thing I don't get with Subway is the bread. Some years ago they applied for a tax break due to their bread and were refused as the bread had too much sugar. I don't get that as their bread doesn't seem real sweet to me but I always get the Italian herb and cheese so others may be sweeter.

Anyway, tonight, it is a 10 ounce bone-in pork chop, green beans with a bit of bacon and red bell pepper; may toss in some pearl onions. Also frying some Bartlett pear. I will do the pears in the same pan as the chop with some of the pear juice.

We're Jersey Mike's & The Cheese Steak Shop fans. I've only had Subway once & Jimmy Johns a few times.

Leftover mac & cheese tonight maybe with frozen peas.

This is something that bugs me. I would love to try Jersey Mikes and even Marco's Pizza but neither exist here. What sense does it make to show commercials for a product that isn't even here? :dunno:

Yeah , I don’t get that either . I’ve read that their bread has so much sugar that it qualifies as a pastry . It seems like ordinary bread to me .

Nice and easy today, baked potatoes with grated cheese and butter...plenty of butter Mmmm ;)

Fresh tomatoes with small amount of creamed coconut in water. I used to have a friend in the late 70's that bred goats, but they are no longer alive, so turned to lamb. My husband loves it when I make curry goat, but only tend to do it 5 or 6 times a year, so do a potful and freeze some.

@Jennet, lol, my husband has some food phobias, goat & lamb are on his no list. The times I've had goat & lamb were out with more "adventurous" family & friends when he could try other dishes. I too cook big batches of food & freeze👍

You guys talking about subs must have leaked over to my husband by computer proximity. He had to have Jersey Mike's for lunch. So we're not very hungry for dinner, I'm thinking deluxe baked potatoes & Trader Joes spanakopita.

Jersey Mike's is a chain of sub shops here in the US. They advertise widely and are a very popular shop.

@Jennet submarine sandwiches (subs, heroes, hoagies, etc) are a "thing" in the US. Maybe you Brits have something similar? Often on a long Italian bread roll but maybe softer or even toasted. They can have any filling: any combination of thin deli meats & cheeses usually with lettuce, tomato & often some thin onion bits, maybe a dressing; even tuna salad (no!). There are regional variations. My husband is from Philadelphia so to him it's called an Italian hoagie with ham, pepper ham, capicola, salami, pepperoni & provolone cheese with a bit of oil & oregano & lettuce, tomato & onion. Jersey Mike's way adds red wine vinegar, but we usually skip that. "Grinders" are hot sandwiches I've never tried.

Cheese steak sandwiches are also from Philly :) & similar in a way. Italian roll, thin sliced beef sauteed with onion, sometimes with bell peppers +/- mushrooms. And, of course, cheese that can be white American (real cheeses, not that squishy stuff), provolone or Cheez Whiz (that is a spreadable "cheese product"). Where I live now, they make "chicken cheese steaks", meh, steak means beef!

When we took my FIL to Ireland, we stopped for petrol & got ham & cheese sandwiches on rolls with "salad" & oil & vinegar dressing for a picnic. So, I'm guessing England has their own versions, whatever they might be called ;) but equally unhealthy lol.
