Yesterday I bought two fish from a LFS that I have not used before in London, I got them as they are a variety I have never seen before and liked the look of, and was re-assured that they were peaceful community fish. In my small tank after a few hours they were being aggressive with the cardinals, so I moved one into my bigger tank hoping that the adult angels and gourami would put him in his place, but in this tank he was also aggressive to the small fish - harlequins, etc.

Can anyone tell me what they are so that I can do some more research, and if possible confirm what their behaviour in a community tank is most likely to be like?

Next time I get something new from a new store I am going to google the name of the fish first!

Thanks,

Mark

PS if they are not suitable for community tank, would anyone in Kent like them?

Kinda look like a Spotted Scat to me.....Could be wrong though x

They are Scats - a type of Brackish to Marine fish grow pretty large around a foot tall and long but are reasonably peaceful but being a large growing fish they will probably view the smaller fish as prey and go after then.

Thank you, they are definitely Scats and you are right they grow up to a foot long. As they grow they also need marine conditions. Totally unsuitable for my tank (55l), I am not going back to that store again. I should have known they were not a good place to buy from when I saw they had some clear fish that had been injected with fluorescent ink for sale.

Can anybody in Kent/SE offer these fish a good home please?

I can't believe a shop sold you scats and told you that they were "peaceful community" (tropical) fish?! If they are selling scats like that, they are probably selling stuff like mono's that way as well.

Post them in the classified section, you will likely get more responses.

Here is a facebook page for offering free fish, many people rescue them. https://www.facebook.com/groups/424216964273600/

You can also contact the people on this website, they rescue fish as well, very good site who will make sure your fish ends up in the right place. http://fishrescueandwelfare.com/Home.php :good:
