its better if the water is softer which can be done by introduing bog/drift wood and some other methods.
thay are pretty hardy. is your 6x2x2 just for them? lucky gits..

No, not just for them, I want to have a pair of T-Bar cichlids as well, but not sure what else yet,

Oh, and the bad thing with having "hard" water is that the eggs supposidly go harder quicker, which makes it hard for the fry to get out the shells, But I have hatched angelfish fry ? but they all died within 1.5 weeks because of me, I dont know why though, I think it may be because i didnt feed bbs, BUt they still did hatch, and alot hatched as well, so why would it be different with flyers ? and they do live in hard water aswell, from a profile I have read

try this link for more pics..link
note, that male in those pics is UGLY. most flyers are more blue instead of that green colour there and just look alot better, the male there looks think and unhealthy :X

Woh woh woh,

I do not own any unhealthy or even thin fish, when I say i like to have them hungry, i don't starve them!

If you think this, it is just the quality of the pics. + according to yourself I only have One male in the tank and he is in breeding dress, thus nearly completely black, when not in breeding dress, he is pretty much identical to the first pic on the link you posted, and might I add very good looking!

I hope your were mistaken, and I can only apologize for the quality of the pics.

the water is nutral with me yes. when my water ph dropped to 5 :X the perents didnt lay for a while so are probably sensitive to that drop/rise in water hardness. try to keep it at seven...

im about 70% sure about the sexing, maybe more, the dorsal fin of a male is more pointed and elongated. Males are MUCH larger. so if that younger pair is of simular age they are definatly both female.males are more deep bodied as well and more blueish...vid male is at front....
pic

male is the big colourful one,, mine isnt green but blue,,, :good:

i strongly advise a seperate tank though fatty for rearing fry..>

its essential!
here is avid of them laying...spawn

what i have done now is got a 23 gallon filled halfway with a small filter in there and an air pump and temp at 82* for rapid accelaration in metablolism, as they get older you can turn the temp down.
i feed them twice a day on liquifry and twice a day on baby brine shrimp which can be bought frozen. if you cant get any il post some over, i think its only about £2 for a bag that will easily last you a batch of fry. dont know how much postage will be, bt its only small, can see it being much..if you would like you ould send the eggs over to me, il hatch them an when they are about half an inch i can send them back to you via post, at this stage they should be able to survive the journey...

have you tried breeding live bearers first, there suppost to be easier BUT i never had any luck with them...

Yeh, I have a seperate tank, but not worried yet as they don't hatch yet. The trouble is the biggest fish was the biggest fish by quite alot, so I'm not sure the male would have caught up yet. Don't know if you've got too much green on the monitor, but both the bigger fish are in breeding dress so basically black. The big one you think is a male, I have witnessed her lay her eggs literally droping from the breeding tube onto the rock or cave etc.

I will post pics when they have there normal blue green and even red colouration back.

Dany, I hereby challange you to a photo competition for the best looking Flyer Cichlid!

probably shooting myself in the foot, but it will be fun trying! :p

Oh, ok, whoops sorry, I think any fish that spawn are telling you they're happy anyway!

I use photobucketdotcom for my photos, it's free and you just have to load them up to photobucket first them use the insert picture button on the posting screen and cut and paste the url tag into it.

Good luck.

I'll be snapping... just the fish this time

I have read that altho superior in looks and attitude the flyer cichlid is supposedly as easy to breed as the convict cichlid which breed like rabbits (apparently, i've never tried them).

Saboy, because of your success with angels i would say you shouldn't have a problem, I do think they are quite hardy.

YAY !! , Well , keeping the fish should be fine, but its the hatching eggs, that would say for certain that is fine with my water,

Oh and I have also hatched convict eggs in my water !

The only thing that I am a little worried about is the acclimation from danys water to mine.

why dont you lower the ph? get a few big pieces of wood in there or what other methods there are around.

where are those pics fatty? :shifty:

I dont really want bogwood as it leaches tannins and makes the water brown, I want sparkling crystal clear water

do you let the water stand befor you add it to the tank? if you do you can boil it to get all those salts out of it..? :/
or maybe just in the breeding tank... 6 x 2 x2 is an awful lot to fil with boiled water...

Salts ? Well, I let the water sit overnight, the water goes up from ph 7.4 to 8.0,
