What are some tips for a good design on an aquascape of a lesser-known freshwater body in South America?

This includes lesser known freshwater bodies Lago de Valencia in Venezuela and a few rivers in Brazil and other states in South America (not the Amazon, Orinoco or other famous rivers). How do I make a good, accurate design of a biotope-style aquascape and what are some tips on how to plan a good one?
