Hi sorry same old post you have seen a million times. I had a tank crash that took out my old friends Oscar the Grouch, Jack the Dempsey, 5 albino corys, and 3 Jhulis. After staring at my lone survivor Picasso the Pleco for about a year I impulse purchased this guy. he was sold to me as a Severum but well I have since bought 3 Severums and he does not look like them, really kinda looks like good ole Jack but not so pretty and his fins are different. oops sorry dragging on any help greatly appreciated. Oh yeah he is territorial, but never draws blood.

oh and here are his severum tank mates no one is camera shy in this tank. I swear these fish watch us a lot more then we watch them.

looks like a stressed
(F)GT, or maybe a crossbreed of some sort.
the fins scream GT, but the head looks more like a dovii

Wow what a crazy looking fish. It looks like a mutt to me. Some type of hybrid but I could be wrong.
Does it have a green like it looks like a cat eye. Really cool looking fish whatever it is.

That does not look like a Green terror to me.

Yes his eyes are green, and yes he is a bit stressed I had just stolen one of his precious rocks before taking his picture. The Black dot on his side comes and goes and his belly gets pretty green when he watches us eat our dinner. I have had him now for about 2 years and he is territorial, but really seems to be all show.

the shape of his head reminds me of a male Texas cichlid. Maybe a Texas terror Mix I don't know.

Well Thanks for the ideas. You actually made me feel a bit better I was expecting the first person to respond call me an idiot and name off a very obvious answer.

I'm not much good on large cichlid ID but the two opinions in here seem pretty close - though I have to admit I though dovii head shape as well.

Have to say they are some gorgeous gorgeous fish! I use to dislike the red neck sevs but they are gorgeous!! What size tank is that? Man I am literally bursting at the seams to get my big tank!!!!!

Its a very dirty looking Geophagus Brasiliensis.

I googeled this fish the Geophagus Brasiliensis and some photos it looks like it and other photos it looks nothing like it. So yeah it might be more a Geophagus Brasiliensis then any other.

Yeh you probably saw young or females Brasiliensis.

I sold my large Male Brasiliensis about 4 months ago and he looked identical to that but not as dark.

I agree with the geo ID. I think its the dark sand that does it. Its it tihitian moon sand by any chance? My clown loaches are almost black now im keeping them with black sand.
