I have tried to prime my eheim 2213 250 external filter and have had no joy,ive even chopped and changed the hoses about and still nothing am ready to crack up...any ideas on how to get this thing going etc

Not familiar with this exact model, but I tend to prime all externals in the same way. Suck on the return pipe to create a syphon and let gravity fill the canister. If you have a spray bar or similar, once the syphon has started simply reconnect and wait until any bubbles or "glugging" noises stop before turning on. If there's any air present just rock the canister gently from side to side. My eheim Pro3 has a priming button on it but its a pain in the backside tbh.

There was no spray bar with it etc thats what i get for buying second had stuff, which is the return pipe etc just i have chopped and changed the hoses all about a few times but nothing happened.what goes to the top of the canister and to the bottom etc am ready to smash the thing to bits :( lol

Tried filling it and then shaking the life out of it? Mine was impossible to prime but a good shake used to get it going lol

Are they new or used filters? I had a hell of a time with one of my old filters tried everything, in the end I took out all the small pieces in the lid bit, put it all back together again, that did the trick. Sometimes a few bits just need rearranging.

Hey Nic1,Its a used one,ive tried all that but still nothing happened,so i dont no what to try next :(

How does it sound when you turn it on? does it sound like it is trying to pump? is there water in the inlet and outlet pipes? I have an external not the same make and just needs a bit of priming to get it going, it will push air out for quite a bit and be really slow to begin with if I have been lazy on the priming but gets there in the end lol If its second hand did it come with all the bits needed to get it to work? maybe have a word with the person you got it from as I take it they had it in use beforehand?

Or if it makes no noise what so ever then change the fuse on the plug?
You have to cover all basis.
The canister needs to be below the tank, (you probably already know this)
Also have you tried cleaning the spinning bit in the lid with a cotton bud and also the hole the spinning bit is in?

Has it ever worked whilst you've had it?

lol

I have this model.  The bottom is inlet and top is outflow.  To prime it you need to connect the bottom pipe and suck on the outlet at the top, water will then fill up the canister while you reconnect the outlet pipe.

Thanks for your replys ;) i think i have it primed i HOPE,but when i look in the tank it seems as if the dirt i moving around the suction pipe and not going up it so how will i know if its actually working properly, sounds stupid asking that, but just need to know ;)

there is really good water flow out of it so there is,it was a second hand filter but gave it a really good clean and service etc thanks for the link i hae gone through it several times and never made much since to me :D
