Well Today Has Been A Good And Bad Day!

Well todays been a mixed barrel

Went to my LFS, told them i wanted a centre piece fish to replace the Gouramis and they suggested an Ellioti - it was the only one left so i think they just wanted to get rid, but i still like him

I also mentioned i wouldnt mind something different to live at the bottom, after establishing i'd have no luck with any of the syno's i wanted (due to their adult sizes) he suggested an eel catfish,

again was the last one in the tank so thought hey why not

put them both in the tank. The Ellioti is swimming fine now, was a little shy as you expect, the eel catfish hid under the bogwood where i thought he was until an hour ago... noticed he wasnt there - took the bogwood out....

Long story short, he swam into the filter box, down to the bottom next to the heater and is now no longer with us!

I am GUTTED!

At least i still have the Ellioti

On the upside, you have got a very beautiful centrepiece fish in the Ellioti. How big is he/she? They're very impressive when fully grown, mine is stunning.

he/she is only about 2 inchs max, still spending alot of time hiding in the plants, i try coax it out with some bloodworm later and take a few pics

Brilliant mate. I have a firemouth of similar size and it spends most of its time teasing my Jade eyes... I also have some Ellioti fry that i am hoping to get a female from. They really are beautiful.

Yer, this one has a lot of blue running through him/her....

How do you sex one?

They do tend to. Most females tend to have more rounded fins... But it is very difficult to tell.
