i was in my science class this morning, first lesson and for some reason i could hear a whining coming from the fish tank... 20 seconds later the entire left side of the tank blew out and one very sad neon tetra spilled out onto the floor... i scooped him up and put him in a bag of the remaining tank water and then set about finding the cause of the explosion...

THE HEATER!!!!!

it turns out that my teacher had put the bracket up on the side of the tank and the heater was almost completely out of the water! it just got to the stage i suppose where it couldn't take it anymore and blew...

so, i now have one extra (and now happy) neon tetra, and LOADS of cycled media!!! Bonus...

i suppose you are wondering if i kept him in my pocket all day, then the awnser is no, no i didnt... i set up a net divider in the axolotl tank next door (which is now mine) and popped him in, and put the media in the fluval 205...

I am now a god as far as that tetra is concerned... and the axolotls... well, they couldnt figure out why their "dinner" was locked up...

just thought i'd share this and give a warning to all that...

NEVER RUN A HEATER OUT OF WATER, YOU WILL END UP WITH A VERY BIG HOLE IN THE SIDE OF YOUR TANK!!!

Just an update... the neon tetra is still alive and happier then EVER!!!!! The media has all gone into my fluval 3plus/ fluval mini and TT IN300plus...

Wow that great!! :)

I hope no other fish where harmed tough...

all the other fish died long ago... they reached the end of their natural lives... all i did was pick the poor guy up, put him in a divider in with the axolotls, media in the 205 and went on with the day... apparently they are still cleaning up... it didnt only blow the tank out, it blew out the window 'n' all... if youre wondering what i did with the flu.2plus i put it in with the axolotls.. who are greatly appreciating the gentle water flow around the bottom...

Blimey, bet that made everyone jump.
Glad you were able to save the neon

I wonder what my teacher would think if I asked to buy her fish tank.... Hmm. I'm gonna ask on the last day of school so she can't ask me weird questions the rest of the tear.

It's a 20ish gsllon turtle tank with an internal filter, heater and lid. The turtles don't look too happy. She always let's them out of their tank to walk around the class during tests. :omg: that can't be good? I should adopt them. :P

Hahaha! my teacher just called me to say the axolotls wonder wonder what the fish is going on in the room!

the bits of exploded tank and heater have now all been collected... and i am welcome to some gravel, told them to put it in for the Axe's and if it seemed too deep to put it in the media tray along with the ceramic rings...

Bet that put paid to the lesson lol
I used to take care of the axolotl at school, his tank started to leak but luckily didn't explode.
I would've loved to have taken him home, but didn't get chance as they got him a new tank

they are alright out of water, they are turtles after all, my mate has turtles and he has a ramp in his tank and leading up to it as well so the turtles can come and go as they please, and they do! his tank is downstairs and quite often you will see small turtles pottering around the house.. they know where the tank is so there aint really much of a problem!

I wish my class had axolotls they look so cool. They're like underwater lizards just cooler.

Oh my main worry for them is someone will step on them or they will bite someone. I'm almost certain they are snapping turtles.
